SLEX expansion project set to be completed before 2025

MANILA: The South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) expansion project is set to be completed by December, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) shared.

In a statement, the company shared that the project (already around 70-percent complete) is expected to provide significant benefits to motorists as well as further boost the economic prospects in the Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and Rizal area (CALABARZON).

Eyed to expand SLEX from the current three to four lanes to six lanes on each side, the project is designed to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity between southern and northern Luzon. The initiative is being undertaken in response to the significant growth in traffic volume due to economic and population growth in recent years.

"The SLEX expansion will be a significant boost to the CALABARZON region, which currently generates almost 20 percent of the country’s GDP (gross domestic product," SMC President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon Ang said.

Meanwhile, Ang sought the public’s understanding on the temporary traffic slowdowns experienced along the expressway with the ongoing construction works.

"We apologize for any inconvenience caused during this period. However, the long-term benefits, including improved traffic conditions and regional economic support, will be substantial," he claimed.

Meanwhile, Ang expressed appreciation to government stakeholders — from the Department of Transportation and the Toll Regulatory Board to the different local governments along the SLEX route — for their support in managing daily traffic effectively.
