SM Supermalls chain has 123 EV charging stations

MANILA: In anticipation of the upcoming Holy Week, SM Supermalls shared that it has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging network. In total, the mall company has now established a total of 123 EV charging stations nationwide. Plus, it has 50 more planned to be put up within the year. 

With such a rapid growth in EV charging stations, SM Supermalls says that it will aid EV owners to have a hassle-free travel experience during the Holy Week holidays and beyond. Plus, the corporation says its efforts will likewise help in the proliferation of EVs, which will help “reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere. 

As SM Supermalls shared, EV charging for this Holy Week road is free of charge at 69 SM malls. Here is a non-exhaustive list of SM malls equipped with EV charging stations: 

• SM Mall of Asia
• SM City Baguio
• SM North EDSA
• SM City Clark
• SM City Fairview
• SM City Rosales
• SM City Urdaneta Central
• SM City Santa Rosa
• SM City San Pedro
• SM City Lipa
• SM City Legazpi
• SM City Naga
• SM City Lucena
• SM City Cebu
• SM City Cagayan de Oro
• SM Lanang, Davao
• SM City Cagayan de Oro Downtown

Examples of road trips between the said malls include a northern sojourn from SM Mall of Asia to SM City Baguio - a 266-kilometer (km) drive. Per SM Mall Corporation, EVs running the said route will save approximately 0.067 metric tons of carbon dioxide. 

A trip from SM City Cagayan de Oro to SM Lanang, Davao City, on the other hand, is a 280 km roundtrip, which, if run by an EV, will save 0.035 tons of carbon dioxide.
