Sneak peek at the new 2020 Honda Jazz ahead of 2019 Tokyo Motor Show

MANILA: If you’re a fan of the Jazz, Honda’s much-loved hatchback, then this is a must read. The fifth-generation Jazz is scheduled to make its debut on October 23, at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

From the pictures, the new 2020 Jazz (or Fit) front-end will remind you of the second-generation Jazz sold from 2009 to 2014 based on the ‘bug-eye’ shape of the headlights and curvaceous design. The front grille has a strong resemblance to a mustache with a chrome bar running across the front bumper, much like the current generation Jazz.

As for the rear, we can only assume that the tail light will have a longer, wraparound design. This is one of the departures of the new Jazz from the past models in terms of design. Another thing that can be noted is the shape of the windows. The new Honda Jazz is sporting triangular-shaped windows instead of the usual D-pillar, again, another design change over the prior Jazz models.

There is not much than can be said of the interior as there are no official photos released as of this writing. But expect the new Jazz to carry a minimalistic design and a digital cluster—similar to that of the Civic, a large touchscreen for infotainment, and a new steering wheel never before seen in prior Honda Jazz models. Based on the spy shot, the Jazz will still have the knob-type climate control system, likely for entry-level variants. Importantly, the next Jazz will be the first new Honda to offer the 'HondaSensing' active safety suite as standard across the range.

For the engine, the new Honda hatchback will reportedly get a new platform under the Honda’s EarthDreams technology suite. The dual-motor hybrid system will feature a 1.5L petrol engine in combination with an electric motor. The 2020 Honda Jazz will be the first to carry the compact version of this two-motor hybrid system which is expected to expand to other models in the entire Honda lineup.

According to Honda President and CEO Takahiro Hachigo, The arrival of the new 2020 Honda Jazz will pave the way for the company’s automobile direction.
