South America gets the 2019 Chevrolet Spin

MANILA: Chevrolet has already stopped selling the Spin in the Philippine market. However, the automaker has brought a completely revamped Spin for the South American market. Lucky westerns! They usually get their hands on a new vehicle before anyone else and also keep having the discontinued models which we would love to have.

The 2019 Chevrolet Spin takes its designing cues from SUV vehicles and thus, looks husky without conceding too much space either. The front fascia on the new Spin features muscular headlamps with LED DRLs, redesigned grille, and a revamped bumper housing fog lamps on either end. Look at the MPV from the sides and you will see new 16-inch 5-spoke wheels. Move to the rear and the square taillights are nowhere to be seen. Replacing the square taillamps are now horizontal wrap-around style units. The back window gets its share of refreshment and the rear bumper houses horizontal reflectors on either end.

Move inside the 2019 Chevrolet Spin, and all the updates make this MPV just better. The instrument cluster is now inspired by the one seen in Trax and replaces the old motorcycle kind of gauges. The touchscreen infotainment system features Chevrolet’s MyLink. There are controls mounted on the steering wheel for audio and telephony. The fabric seats along with faux metal accents and gloss black plastic trim pieces complete the interior.

Allowing for more legroom and storage capacity are the sliding second row in the MPV which can be moved forward and backward by 50 mm and 60 mm, respectively. Features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic windshield wipers, reverse camera, remote engine start, and automatic headlight adjustment also make their way to the 2019 Chevrolet Spin. Powering the updated MPV is a 1.8-litre 4-pot motor capable of pumping out 111 PS of maximum power and 173 Nm of peak torque. Power delivery is done by a 6-speed automatic unit.

Another interesting addition to the MPV is the active front grille. To achieve better fuel efficiency, the grille is opened and closed automatically. This automatic system takes the decision of opening or closing after judging the speed of the vehicle and temperature of the engine. With the MPV market growing in the country, we might see Chevrolet bring the new Spin in the Philippines soon. Until then, we gotta be content with the current Chevrolet line-up.
