Will Chevrolet PH add the all-new Groove to its lineup?

MANILA: Chevrolet Philippines, under the management of Hariphil Asia Resources Incorporated (HARI), will launch a new vehicle this month, and it could be the all-new Groove.  

For now, the bow-tie brand’s local arm has not directly revealed the model’s identity, but its teaser does provide some clues.  For starters, it will be a crossover model featuring sharp but straight-cut design details. It isn’t clear, but the front plate on the car in the teaser image also says “Groove.”

To note, the Groove is a five-seater subcompact crossover model that has been around since 2020. The one coming to the Philippine market, however, might be the relatively new second-generation version unveiled globally last month by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Corporation Limited. 

In the Chinese market, the model goes by the name of Wuling Xingchi. In Latin America and Middle Eastern territories, however, it is marketed as the Groove. 

So, what is the upcoming Chevrolet Groove offering? Let’s check out the specifications of the one already sold in Saudi Arabia as we wait for the Philippine-spec version to officially come out. 

Chevrolet Groove: features, specs

From the outside, the Saudi Arabian version of the Chevrolet Groove sports an elegant front fascia with rectangular LED headlamp clusters, a sizable grille, and a prominent front lip, particularly for the top-spec RS trim. It also boasts a black-colored roof, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and a sporty-looking rear diffuser. 

Inside the Groove is a well-arranged cabin with seating for up to five occupants. It likewise boasts the following amenities: 

• 10.25-inch infotainment display
• Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Seven-inch digital gauge cluster
• Smart keyless entry
• Six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat 
• Leather upholstery
• Six-piece speaker set
• Advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS)
• 1,120-liter maximum cargo space

The ADAS suite listed above consists of adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and automatic high beams - among others. 

Under the hood of the Saudi Arabian-spec Chevrolet Groove RS is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine capable of producing up to 145 horsepower and 255 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Currently, no pricing details have been announced for the upcoming model. We can, however, expect more information about the ride when it finally launches this month.
