Dongfeng Forthing Friday scores 5-star in ASEAN NCAP test

MANILA: The Dongfeng Forthing Friday has earned the five-star approval of the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP).

In a statement, the evaluators shared that the five-seater crossover’s full electric and range-extender variants both got the highest ratings after they garnered a total score of 87.18 points. The said numbers were from the tests for the four assessment categories introduced under the ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 protocol.

Here are the scores of the Dongfeng Forthing Friday’s scores per category

Assessors attributed the score to the vehicle’s standard equipment namely:

• Electronic Stability Control
• Anti-lock Braking System

• Autonomous Emergency Braking (city, inter-urban, pedestrian, and motorcycles)
• Blind Spot Detection
• Pedestrian Protection
• ISOFIX for child safety seats
• Lane Departure Warning
• Forward Collision Warning
• Lane Keep Assist

Per ASEAN NCAP, the Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor (DFLZ) is now included in the list of "proactive Chinese automakers" who underwent the evaluation — with the Forthing Friday being the brand’s first-ever nameplate to undergo the series of rigorous tests.

“MIROS and ASEAN NCAP applaud DFLZ for submitting both the BEV and REEV variants for assessment under our current protocol. Through these evaluations, DFLZ has proven that its high safety standards are consistent across different electric powertrains. The outstanding results achieved by both versions are a testament to the brand’s engineering excellence,” ASEAN NCAP noted.

“The Forthing Friday’s five-star performance was bolstered by its advanced suite of safety features to avoid collision with other road users and its robust occupant protection for both adults and children. These results provide regional consumers with the confidence that Forthing Friday meets the highest safety benchmarks in the ASEAN market,” it added.

Forthing Friday in PH

To note, Dongfeng Motors Philippines distributes Forthing Friday in the country. The said model can be had in battery electric-propelled option with three variants namely:

• 430
• 630 (with Type 2 charger)
• 630 (with GB/T) charger

All of them are propelled by electric motors that can deliver churns of up to 209 horsepower and 340 Newton-meters of pulling power. The powertrains are mated to either a 57.8- or 85.9 kilowatt-hour batteries (can be lithium iron phosphate or ternary lithium) that can be charged from 30-80 percent in as fast as 45 minutes using an alternating current (AC).

The said energy bank has an IP67 water resistance rating (30 mins at one-meter depth).
