Takata Responsible for Recent Road Mishappening- NHTSA

MANILA: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that the recent death in the road accident was due to faulty Takata airbag. NHTSA has already imposed heavy fine on Takata and urged it to look into the matter seriously. The agency has also appealed the automakers to recall the vehicles and get them check as early as possible.The safety agency has also withdrawn Takata’s compliance for settlement.

We have covered some stories earlier where Takata was found guilty due to the very same reason and for this, the brand had suffered massive break ups with leading automotive brands which were using their airbags in their vehicles.

More recalls are expected by Honda, Subaru, and Mazda who use the airbag manufactured by Takata. The massive recalls include the 2005 to 2008 Mazda6 models,2005-2008 Subaru Legacy and Outback models, and 2002-2004 Honda CR-V models.Takata's inflators are unable to rupture in case of any accident and also pour minute metal parts onto the passenger leading to severe injury. The death toll due to the airbag failure has reached upto nine and there are reports of 100 injuries as well.

According to NHTSA, few vehicles have been fixed via recall and the investigation will be carried over for any other severe risk. In November, the agency ordered the airbag manufacturer to accelerate the recall and fix the fault. It has also issued a deadline to fix all the recalls by 2017. Earlier this month, Takata agreed to pay a massive fine of $70 million for safety violations.
