The countdown for the Sta. Rosa, Laguna facility might've started
MANILA: Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawan is looking forward to shutting down the automaker’s sub-scale market assemblies. Also, many of the workers at Nissan will be losing their jobs due to the implementation of the new strategy. The reason behind the overhaul? Well, Nissan hasn’t been making much profit of late and to cut down on expenses and save more, Nissan will be closing the doors of some of its plants.

The Philippines and Taiwan will be severely affected as many of the 12,500 employees losing on their jobs worldwide are going to be from the two countries. Statistically speaking, around 9% of the total Nissan workers will lose their jobs worldwide. This, as a result, will enhance the global factory utilization percentage for Nissan from 69% to 86%.

Nissan’s former CEO, Ghosn was in favour of targeting fleet sales and incentivizing wholesale deliveries, and hence, increasing the volume. The current CEO Saikawa, on the other hand, is aiming at boosted profits for the company. The change will also bring down the number of total Nissan vehicles produced annually to 6.6 million from the present figure of 7.2 million units.

While Nissan will be introducing 20 new models in the coming times, the size of the Japanese automaker’s portfolio is set to decline by 10%. More and more Nissan vehicles will also benefit from the Nissan Intelligent Mobility shortly.
For the Philippines, Nissan is preparing to launch the all-new Almera in the country very soon. The revamped sedan boasts a drastically updated design and the Philippine-spec model should come housing a 1.5-litre engine. We might also see a continuously variable transmission replacing the four-speed automatic unit that is found on the current model. The Japanese B-segment sedan will take on the likes of Honda City, Toyota Vios, and Mitsubishi Mirage G4.
