Toyota GR GT Cup Asia-bound Reyes hailed as 2024 Gulf Top Driver Challenge victor

MANILA: Russel Reyes was hailed as the 2024 Gulf Top Driver Challenge champion.

In a statement, Tuason Racing said that the 22-year-old Racing Data Analyst (who is also part of three-man Philippine team for the 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo [TGR GT> Cup Asia) bested nine other rivals in the multi-stage competition.

Launched at the Manila International Auto Show 2024 and culminated at the Clark International Speedway last August 24, the event put participants through their paces — starting with simulator trials, moving on to karting at EKart Raceway, to a Basic Racing Class at Clark International Speedway and lastly, driving the TRS Formula V1 race car.

Facing off at the final round were Reyes, 19-year-old former karter Clarence Ancheta and 36-year-old seasoned amateur racer Jahan Kalam.

After having a final time of 28.50 seconds, Reyes was announced as the victor. His win gave him an all-expense-paid trip to the 2024 F1 Singapore Grand Prix, where he will have the unique opportunity to meet the Williams F1 Team.

To recall, Reyes secured the third spot at this year’s recently-concluded TGR GT Cup-Philippines after scoring 45 points at the e-motorsport event.
