Toyota Motor PH expands sports car lineup with GR Corolla introduction

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is not yet done with vehicle introductions yet for 2025 as it is set to formally launch GR Corolla locally a few days before Christmas.

During its preview, TMP shared that the latest member of the Gazoo Racing (GR) line will have its official unveiling on December 23.

Such an announcement came weeks after the company started accepting pre-orders in mid-November.

The Japanese automaker’s latest track star — which was shipped straight from its home country — is the “most family-friendly” model among the GR roster as it is the only four-door vehicle there.

With it, the local GR roster is now made up of four nameplates—joining the likes of the GR Yaris, GR 86, and GR Supra.

Vehicle specifications

On paper, the family-friendly sports car has the following measurements:

For its exterior, the hot hatch has striking similarities with its sedan sibling namely the Corolla Altis than the two-door hatch. This is due to the front fascia made up of a pair of daytime running lights wrapped in projector headlamps, a gloss black honeycomb grille, and functioning air vents to easily cool off the front brakes.

However, the GR Corolla’s wheel wells (which houses 18-inch alloy wheels) are more subtle as opposed to the GR Yaris' that are wider and more aggressive-looking.

The layout of the front illumination front has been carried over at the back, with the brake lights hugging the turn signals. This complements the overall athletic stance as well as the blocky diffuser that holds the three tailpipes, the roof spoiler with third brake lamp, and the shark fin antenna.  

Inside, occupants are welcomed by a rich mix of synthetic leather and suede. The headrest of the sporty seats at the front bears the GR logo (which can also be found in other GR models).

Making it a family-first vehicle are the eight beverage holders fitted around the cabin.

Its host of creature comforts include:

• 12.3-inch digital display with head-up display
• Seven-inch infotainment with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity
• Type C (two) and Type A (one) charging ports

Powering the Toyota GR Corolla’s hood is a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline-fed engine (with recommended octane rating is 100 RON) in all-wheel-drive mode that can deliver as much as:

This powertrain is mated to either a six-speed manual rower that gives drivers more control of the vehicle or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Further, the vehicle offers four drive modes namely:

• Normal
• Eco
• Sport
• Gravel
• Track

Keeping everyone inside the family-friendly sports car is the suite of Toyota Safety Sense features that include adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, pre collision system, and lane departure assist.

The Toyota GR Corolla’s pricing starts at P3.811 million for the manual and P3.955 million for the automatic transmission option.
