Toyota Motor PH renames virtual racing tilt for 2025

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially renamed its online racing series starting 2025 onwards.

Based on the latest announcement posted over Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Philippines Facebook page, the virtual competition is now called “Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines eSports GT (Gran Turismo) Championship.”

In an interview, TMP Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services Andrew Ryan Ty said that such a move is aimed at aligning the program to the new regional e-motorsport program.

"We're aligning with the regional naming scheme as we also want to to show we are more serious in developing racers from the grassroots level, especially in e-motorsports," Ty told Zigwheels Philippines. 

Previously called the Toyota GR GT Cup, the newly-christened racing series started its qualifiers last August 9 (season-ender of the GR Philippine Cup 2025) and will be up until September 14 — available online and on select GR dealerships.

Racers 14 and up are invited to join the competition using the Gran Turismo 7 platform. Toyota GR Philippines clarified that minors must submit a parental consent first before participating.  

Those who will advance in the qualifying stage will be pitted against each other in the quarterfinals (October 11), then to semi-finals (October 12), before heading to the national finals set on October 11–12, 2025 at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

Similar to the previous format, e-racers who will emerge victorious in the national finals will have the opportunity to represent the country in the regional leg of the series.

To recall, Luis Moreno, Enzo Ison, and Russel Reyes donned the country’s colors at the last year’s Toyota GR GT Cup-Asia Finals held in Malaysia after dominating the national finals.

Relatedly, TMP also created a GR Section under its marketing department that will handle all GR-related events. Headed by section supervisor Juan Carlos Gaon, the newly-formed sub-department will report directly to Ty.
