Toyota Motor PH suspends Gazoo Racing PH Cup RW4 due to NLEX flooding, 'habagat'

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has rescheduled the final leg of the 2026 Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup to next month, citing numerous factors.

Instead of the scheduled September 12, the leading automotive distributor in the country shared that the last leg of the aforementioned racing series this year will take place at a later date.

In a statement, TMP explained that the postponed event was due to flooding and heavy traffic conditions along North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

“Additionally, unfavorable weather conditions are forecasted because of the Habagat,” the company mentioned.

“We will share with you more details about Race Weekend 4 closer to the event dates,” TMP told Zigwheels Philippines.

Following the adjustment, excitement builds further regarding the possible participation of the Toyota GR 86 in the races.

This hunch came from TGR Philippines’ social media post wherein the sports car was spotted behind the series staples, the Vios and Tamaraw. 

This capable car is powered by a 2.4-liter engine paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. Such configuration can dish out the following numbers:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	233
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	250

With this, Zigwheels Philippines strongly believes the nameplate might soon have its own category, given the good following seen in the number of participants joining track days during previous race weekends.

At the time of publishing, TMP has yet to announce the probable inclusion of the GR 86 in the TGR Philippine Cup.

Moreover, eventgoers can also expect the race to continue serving as a “rolling laboratory for the use of biofuels in races.”
