Toyota rolls out Tamaraw counterpart in Thailand

MANILA: Toyota has launched the Hilux Champ in Thailand — more known as the next-generation Tamaraw  in the Philippines.

Built on the IMV 0 platform, the Toyota Hilux Champ’s strongest suit is customizability. In fact, 11 different takes (out of the available eight variants) on the vehicle were presented upon launch to highlight the variety of roles the new nameplate can accommodate.

Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. rolled out the aforementioned eight variants of the Hilux Champ with an emphasis on covering a variety of business styles and uses. It comes in short and long-wheelbase versions and is offered with three engine types ― a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, a 2.7-liter gasoline engine, and a 2.4-liter diesel engine — and two transmission options (five-speed manual transmission and six-speed automatic).

An unequipped model with a flat deck is also available.

The Toyota Hilux Champ uses a two-wheel drive system and has a maximum loading capacity of approximately 1,000 kilograms.

“As the automotive industry continues to evolve and customer needs diversify, the lifestyles of Thai customers also continue to change. For the IMV series, Toyota decided to return to its origins to create an IMV pickup truck that is truly affordable and meets the needs of customers. Local engineers led the development of the IMV 0 after thoroughly researching customer lifestyles,” Toyota wrote in a press statement.

In Thailand, the Toyota Hilux Champ is priced from around P728,436-P915,703.
