Toyota Showcases The FT-1 Concept At 6th Philippine International Motor Show
MANILA: Toyota Philippines confirmed with a tweet that it will be showcasing the FT-1 concept at the PIMS 2016 and today Toyota has shown the FT-1 concept at the ongoing 6th Philippine International Motor Show. This car is being touted to spawn the successor to the legendary Supra. However, the concept vehicle has design cues inspired from other iconic Toyota sports cars like 2000GT, MR2 and Celica, apart from the Supra. Toyota bills this car as their ultimate vision of coupe design and clearly, FT-1 makes it evident too.
The FT-1 has sleek LED headlamps with DRL strips, large air intakes, a splitter and a long hood reminiscent of classic sports car designs. At the back, it has a retractable wing, sleek taillamps, dual exhaust tips and a diffuser. The car is shod with Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The FT1 was designed by Calty Design Research in collaboration with Polyphony Digital. The latter is the developer of Grand Turismo video games. In essence, while the FT-1 is yet to become a reality, one can drive it in the Grand Turismo 6 video game.
It is being rumored that BMW and Toyota have collaborated on developing the successors to Supra and the Z4. A number of spy pictures have also been doing rounds on the internet. They show Toyota testing the successor to Supra. There is no information available on the engine, transmission and other mechanical aspects of the FT-1. It is also not know as to how much of the concept's design will make it to the final product. Let's hope the final product is as close to the concept's design as possible.
