Traffic rerouting in Manila set for PH Independence Day celebration

MANILA: Select roads Manila shall be momentarily closed on Wednesday (June 12) in time for the celebration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day.

The traffic mitigation scheme will be on Wednesday (June 12).In a statement, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) shared that the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:
From 6-10 a.m.
- Roxas Boulevard: both sides, from TM Kalaw-P. Burgos
- TM Kalaw: from Ma. Orosa-Roxas Boulevard westbound
From 1-10 p.m.
- Roxas Boulevard: from UN Avenue to P. Burgos Avenue (both bounds)
- TM Kalaw: both sides, from Roxas Boulevard-Taft Avenue
- P. Burgos Avenue: both sides and Finance Road
- Bonifacio Drive: from Anda Circle-P. Burgos Avenue
In addition, adjacent roads within Rizal Park and Quirino Grandstand will also be used for the said occasion.
The actual closing and opening of affected roads, the agency shared, will be based on the actual traffic situation. As such, the MMDA advised motorists to take alternate routes during the aforementioned period.
Northbound public utility and private vehicles may take Roxas Boulevard, turn right to Quirino Avenue or United Nations Avenue, then turn left at Taft Avenue to their destination.
Meanwhile, private vehicles from R-10 may go to Anda Circle in Port Area, head left to Soriano Avenue, turn right to Solana Street, turn left to Muralla Street, straight to Magallanes Drive, turn right to P. Burgos Avenue to their destination.
Trucks either going north or southbound may use this route:
South Luzon Expressway, Osmeña Highway, Quirino Avenue, Nagtahan Street, Lacson Avenue, Yuseco Street, Capulong Street, R-10 Road, to their destination.
Festival-like celebrations have been lined up starting today (June 10) up to Wednesday. They will be held at the Rizal Park Burnham Green right across Quirino Grandstand.
A total of 1,156 personnel will be deployed in strategic locations to manage traffic. Ambulances, military trucks, dump trucks, tow trucks, and other resources will likewise be dispatched.
