Volkswagen Group to offer 20 new models in China by 2027

MANILA: The Volkswagen Group is set to start its massive Chinese market push at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2025. 

By 2027, the conglomerate will have introduced a total of 20 electric and electrified models in China. Further, in 2030, brands under the group will have debuted 30 new models for the aforementioned region. 

According to the German carmaker, its future lineup of China-spec cars is all designed to fit the requirements of the Chinese market and is part of its “comprehensive product offensive.” All 20 are also intelligent, fully connected vehicles (ICVs), which the brand says will help expand its footprint in one of the most highly competitive automotive markets in the world. 

Additionally, Volkswagen Group will likewise unveil its artificial intelligence-powered automated driving system at Auto Shanghai 2025. Per the brand, the system was developed by China-based Carizon, and it features human-like driving behavior while demonstrating high levels of adherence to safety. 

“China is an important market for the Volkswagen Group. Two years ago, we realigned our strategy. And we have made progress faster than initially planned,” Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG Oliver Blume said. 

“Our products are tailored to the needs of Chinese customers: with a clear design language and cutting-edge technologies. The Shanghai Auto Show is another milestone on our strategic path: we want to be the global tech driver for the automotive industry by 2035,” Blume added. 

For now, the German car brand has not shared the full details of its upcoming cars for China. One model under the Audi brand, however, will be debuted at the Volkswagen Group Night, set a day before Auto Shanghai.

Again, no specs were shared, but it is an all-electric model sold based on the Premium Platform Electric. As disclosed by Volkswagen Group, the said model is made domestically and tailored for Chinese consumers. The said vehicle also boasts a level 2 automated driving system, as well as an “emotional design.” 

Prior to the official opening of Auto Shanghai 2025, the following production and concept cars will also be presented at the Volkswagen Group Night:
