Volvo Cars will be ‘All-Electric’ by 2019
MANILA: Volvo has recently announced that it will launch every car as an electric or hybrid from 2019, making electrification as the core of its business ideology. This move is one of the strongest and demands appreciation as the automaker has open the gates of the future and indicated that electrification will be the core of the automobile industry in coming years. Though it will be challenging to compete with an all-electric lineup, Volvo is paving the way for a new chapter in the automobile market.
Volvo will introduce a range of cars which will be fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid. The manufacturer is planning to launch five fully electric car models between 2019 and 2021. From the lineup, there will be two with Volvo branding while the rest of the three will be coming from its performance sub-brand, Polestar. Volvo has not revealed any information about the upcoming cars and we might see some light on the upcoming models in coming months. All the five cars will be supported by a range of petrol and diesel plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid 48-volt options and with this, Volvo will have the broadest electrified car lineup across the globe. Volvo is aiming to sell a total of 1 million electrified cars by 2025 and looking forward to ending the era of solely combustion engine-powered cars.
In addition to this, Volvo has also announced that it will give Polestar a new face and rebrand it as electrified global high-performance car company. The new division will be driven by Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Cars.
