Volvo XC40 Recharge

The cabin of the 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge is sleek and modern, instead of flashy. It’s well-constructed. It does get some hard plastics to enhance durability. The standard charcoal-colour trim inserts and the headlining combine with the dark fabric of the seats to forge a rather serious cabin atmosphere. The seats are soft and nicely padded. The passenger-side dash gets a funky design insert in the middle layer. Side panels of the doors get a similar styling. It looks classy and complements the metal finish on the vertical air-conditioning vents. The car gets soft-touch buttons that control the panoramic sunroof as well as the additional reading lights. The dashboard is dominated by a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Google natively. The Harman-Kardon audio system sounds superb. The standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster has several customization options. The front seats are powered and get driver-side memory. The 2024 Volvo C40 Recharge comes with many convenient storage spaces.     

The 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge looks similar to the standard XC40. The major difference is the lack of the grille on the electric car. There’s a blanked-out panel instead with the Volvo emblem. The car also gets loud green plates that profess its all-electric character. The 19-inch alloy wheels get fatter tyres that lend the car a handsome stance. There’s a subtle Recharge badge on the C-pillar and the back. The traditional fuel lid reveals a charging port. The car is 15mm longer than the standard XC40. The styling largely remains the same with the familiar lines and creases. The 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge gets all-round LED lights. 

The cabin of the 2024 Volvo C40 Recharge, with a tall roofline, is spacious. The front seats get four-way lumbar support, height adjustability and manual cushion extension. Getting into a comfortable seating position won’t be a problem. The backseat is a bit of a squeeze since the door apertures are narrow. But once insides, there’s a generous amount of headroom and legroom for a compact SUV. The bench lacks thigh support and that’s aggravated because of the high floor. Even then the rear seat is fairly comfortable for two passengers. Accommodating five people in the 2024 Volvo C40 Recharge will be a tight call. The suspension system is nicely balanced and absorbs most of the road imperfections.

The 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge is equipped with two 17.6kWh permanent magnet motors that produce a combined output of 408 PS/670 Nm. The motors are powered by a liquid-cooled 82.0kWh lithium-ion battery. The car comes with a 11kW onboard charger. The XC40 Recharge returns a claimed mileage of 418km. Handling the car is easy and once on the move, it feels very much like the standard XC40, minus the powertrain sound.

The 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge comes with exhaustive safety equipment and advanced telematics. Standard features include automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, multiple airbags, parking sensors, and a collision avoidance system. The 360-degree camera eliminates all blind spots. The tyres have great grip and stops the car instantly. 

At a starting price of ₱3.99 million, the 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge is among the most expensive all-electric SUVs in the Philippines market. While these are still the early days of electric cars, but the XC40 Recharge comes with Volvo’s reliability. It’s a great car that’s premium and utilitarian at the same time. The build quality is solid and the ride is nice and comfortable.
