Zigwheels weekly wrap: June 8-12 

MANILA: Fresh off the 10th edition of the Philippine International Motor Show, as well as Manila International Auto Show’s 21st outing, it is understandable for local auto players to have run out of launches and releases. 

Nevertheless, the week still proved to be eventful with local brands posting updates not only about their respective initiatives but also about their running performances — sales-wise. 

That said, here are the biggest news stories that transpired in the past seven days.

BYD 

Arguably, the most resounding buzz from BYD Cars Philippines is its position as the third best-selling auto brand in the Philippines in the first four months of 2026. 

The ACMobility-led Chinese car brand sold 13,723 units in the Philippines from January to April. 

BYD Cars Philippines also became the newest member of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID), with the company’s Managing Director Bob Palanca sitting as the organization’s Vice President. 

Relatedly, Ayala’s mobility arm forged a partnership with ACEN RES to offer businesses integrated renewable energy solutions. 

Hyundai 

Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated advanced its Laguluan Tree Park: Ioniq Forest Project. 

The initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at long-term forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, and community empowerment in Lian, Batangas. 

Meanwhile, the local subsidiary of the South Korean carmaker quickly mobilized aid for customers who were struck by the recent earthquake in the southern parts of Mindanao. 

Through the Hyundai Calamity Assistance Program, the auto manufacturer offered help such as free towing, free vehicle health check, and labor discounts for body and paint repairs. 

UAAGI brands 

BAIC Philippines, under the stewardship of United Asia Automotive Group Incorporated (UAAGI), shared a year-to-date sales growth of some 10 percent. 

Per the sport utility vehicle specialist, the jump in sales was spurred by a strong demand for hybrid and electric vehicles, which accounted for 93 percent of the brand’s total sales during the January to May 2026 period.  

Still under the UAAGI umbrella, Chery Auto Philippines noted that it will open a new dealership in Cebu. The establishment of a new facility will be done in partnership with Pacific Autoworld Incorporated. 

Meanwhile, the Jetour brand will expand the Gaia dealer network through alliances with MG Gateway Mantrade Corporation and Prima Sierra Autohaus, Incorporated. 

The locations will be in Bonifacio Global City and Alabang, respectively. 

Ford 

At the time of writing, the company that launched a promo for the month of June — within the current period covered by Zigwheels Philippines’ abridged weekly report — is Ford Philippines. 

The local arm of the Blue Oval brand extended its Employee Pricing Program through the month, allowing regular customers to get the same perks as Ford employees, such as cash savings, all-in down payment options, and zero-percent interest financing deals on select models. 

VinFast 

Finally, VinFast has opened reservation books for its electric motorcycle lineup, which consists of the Evo, Feliz II, and Viper. 

These electric two-wheelers will arrive in the country next month.
