Zigwheels weekly wrap: Mar. 16-20

MANILA: The local auto scene teemed with launches for both the four-wheeler and two-wheeler categories in the past week. Despite the new and updated models that were introduced, the period also came with not-so-good stories. 

On that note, we take a look at the biggest stories that transpired in the third week of March.

Local launches 

Toyota RAV4 

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) appears to be engaging in the competition of electrified vehicles as the company begins to fill its roster with full electric and hybrid models, like the recently launched RAV4. 

Power comes from a 2.5-liter hybrid engine, and the crossover will be offered in two trims with prices starting at P2.189 million. 

TMP also spruced up the Corolla Cross GR-S. It now wears an upgraded fascia, updated door and rocker moldings, and red seatbelts. 

It starts at P1.942 million. 

Land Rover Defender 

Land Rover Philippines updated the Defender for 2026. Subtle upgrades come in the form of mild exterior changes and a larger infotainment screen. 

The company also released the limited Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition, which boasts exterior and interior appointments that hark back to the nameplate’s historic achievements. 

Bajaj lineup 

Trimotors Technology Corporation, which now distributes Bajaj motorcycles in the Philippines, rolled out the brand’s latest lineup. 

Models include the following: 

• Dominar400 
• Pulsar NS400Z
• Pulsar RS200 
• Pulsar N160
• Pulsar N125

Industry lows 

5-star rating revocation 

Unfortunately, the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) five-star rating of the Proton X90 — based on the Geely Okavango — was revoked. 

The cited reason was that some of its safety technologies were also omitted from the model. 

No more 0-series 

Honda has canceled the 0-series electric vehicles. 

According to the Japanese carmaker, the decision was based on market difficulty and profit losses in the previous fiscal year. 

Other stories 

In other local news, Nissan Philippines will have a new leader in Yoshinori Kanazawa come April 1. 

On the other hand, VinFast Philippines extended its free charging program until the end of the month, amid rising fuel prices. Further, Bosch Mobility Aftermarket launched its own lubricant line in the Philippines. 

Finally, Honda Cars Philippines introduced its “Dash and Drive” promo, while Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation earned honors from the Bureau of Customs for being one of the top importers in 2025.
