Here are the fines and violations under the single ticketing system

It really took 28 years for Metro Manila Local Government Units (LGUs) to agree on a single-ticketing system — which had been repeatedly pushed by previous administrations in response to motorist complaints over inconsistent traffic laws in the NCR. The resolution was finally accepted by the mayors of Metro Manila for adoption in February.

It standardizes the fine amounts for various offenses and provides us with a uniform set of traffic laws and ordinances so that their application won't vary depending on whatever city we are in.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) uploaded the updated list of "Uniform Fines and Penalties for the Single Ticketing System" on their Facebook Page just two days after Metro Manila mayors adopted a single-ticketing system under the Metro Manila Traffic Code (MMTC) of 2023.

 

Fines under the single ticketing system

Some traffic fines increased under the single ticketing system. For instance, the former fine for "Disregarding Traffic Signs" was P150 for the first, second, and third infractions.

Every infraction will cost P1,000 under the MMTC of 2023. The price of "Reckless Driving" has increased from P500, P750, and P1,000 to P1,000, P2,000, and P2,000, respectively, including a seminar.

However, not all infractions saw price increases. While certain fines decreased, the cost of "Illegal Parking," whether it is attended or unattended, remains at P1,000 and P2,000, respectively. Under the no-contact apprehension procedure, "speeding" was P 1,200 but is now only P 1,000.

Driver’s license will not be confiscated during apprehension
According to MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes, the single ticketing system would make it easier for drivers who have been pulled over to make their traffic-related fine payments wherever they are, regardless of the city in which they were stopped.

“This is a historic moment for all of us because after more than twenty years, Metro Manila is finally adopting the single ticketing system that will highly benefit our motorists,” he said.

"The single ticketing system would help avoid confusion among our driving public, as well as the option to pay electronically for their violations. Driver's license will also not be confiscated during apprehension," he added.

Single ticketing system implementation

If you're wondering when it will begin to be implemented, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora (who also serves as the president of the Metro Manila Council (MMC)) says that it won't happen right away because the various local governments must still pass their own ordinances to conform to the MMTC of 2023. He adds that it should happen by March 2023, or earlier.

Your driving habits and manner should always be at their best to prevent accidents and, ideally, getting punished by traffic enforcers for a traffic violation. This is true regardless of this new development.
