Porsche to expand electrified offerings in PH?

MANILA: PGA Cars, the distributor of Porsche cars in the Philippines, will likely expand its electrified portfolio. 

Such speculation was spurred by a homologation paper issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid. The regulatory approval gives us a glimpse of what we can expect from the hybrid coupe.

Hybrid powertrain 

According to the agency, the Philippine-bound Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid will pack a 3,591-cubic-centimeter, six-cylinder gasoline engine. 

It will be paired with an electric motor that produces 84 horsepower. 

The hybrid powertrain can provide the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid with a top speed of 312 kilometers per hour.

The paperwork also reveals that the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid for the Philippine market will have the below measurements:

In addition, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid is specified to weigh 2,045 kilograms. 

The hybrid sports car will run on 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the back. It will wear 245/35 series tires at the fore and 315/30 rubbers at the rear. 

DOE-approved 

Further reinforcing its forthcoming launch is its inclusion in the Department of Energy’s (DOE) approved electric vehicle list. 

There, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid is joined by its cabriolet and targa siblings — signalling open-top driving pleasure with a more modern, fuel-efficient powertrain. 

Additional information we can gather from DOE’s website includes the following: 

• Automatic transmission 
• Maximum engine power is approximately 478 horses
• Battery capacity at 1.47 kilowatt-hours 

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS in PH

The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is currently available in the Philippines. It is equipped with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine paired with the Porsche double-clutch transmission with an electric motor.

It has a maximum power output of approximately 533 horsepower and peak torque of 610 Newton-meters. Its top speed is 312 kph with an acceleration speed of three seconds from a standstill to 100 kph.

Key to its performance is the T-Hybrid system, which is comprised of the above components.

The homologation papers could be pertaining to the same Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, as this too uses hybrid technology. So, whether or not we are to expect a new model or a refreshed one is to be revealed come the vehicle’s launch.
