3 reasons to get excited about the VinFast Viper

VinFast Philippines has made clear its intent to penetrate the local electric scooter (e-scooter) or electric motorcycle market. Not only did it showcase what its dealerships will look like, but it also provided members of the motoring media and key opinion leaders a glimpse of what its initial roster could offer.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the VinFast Viper?

The VinFast Viper uses an inhub motor.
  • What is its range?

The VinFast Viper has an estimated range of up to 80 kilometers per battery.
  • On that note, we take a look at the VinFast Viper, and talk about the top three things that should get Filipino motorcycle enthusiasts excited about its upcoming arrival.

    Good looks

One of the main advantages of the VinFast Viper over all-electric motorcycles is its looks.

Probably, one of the most compelling factors one takes into consideration when purchasing a motorcycle or even a four-wheeled automobile is looks. No one wants to ride a motorcycle they can’t be proud of, and that’s why the sporty and aggressive looks of the VinFast Viper will likely help draw customers in.

As mentioned in a previous report, the VinFast Viper’s look is akin to the internal combustion engine-powered motorcycles we have here in the Philippines.

Its fascia is fitted with a sharp-looking headlamp topped with the VinFast “V” at the upper cowling, just below the assembly for the handlebars. It also has a short fender at the fore, for keeping mud and dirt from spraying all over the electric motorcycle.

The side profile of the VinFast Viper is highlighted by athletic-looking fairings with plenty of angles. Its saddle follows the upward direction of the side panels and ends in a durable-looking grab bar at the end.

Here, one can also notice the tapered taillamps and the turn signals that protrude from the rear fender.

Notable are its folding hook, retractable foot pegs, and somewhat spacious, flat floor board.

Like small displacement scooters that ply our roads, it also has decent-looking wheels.

    Decent range

Powering the VinFast Viper is an in-hub motor that propels the e-scooter to a top speed of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour, pretty good for an emissions-free ellelctric motorbike that will mainly be used for going around the city.

When it comes to range, the two-wheeler is capable of doing up to 80 kilometers (km) in a single charge, per battery.

The VinFast Viper is capable of accommodating two batteries, weighing approximately 12 kilograms each, so two batteries under the saddle means the e-scoot can go up to 150 km. That’s more than enough for quick trips to the grocery, coffee runs, and even visiting one’s friends to catch up during the weekends.

    Swappable battery system

Another benefit to using the VinFast Viper is its swappable battery system.

Let’s face it, one of the challenges of electric vehicle owners is waiting for the battery to recharge, especially when plugged in at home and using an alternating current charging system.

VinFast looks to revolutionize e-scooter ownership by putting up battery swapping stations, which will officially be situated at its dealerships.

During the author’s trip to Vietnam, VinFast E-Scooter Philippines President Ireneo Fabros shared that the company targets some 30,000 battery swapping stations across the country.
