Moto riders now have until July 31 to install protective shield
MANILA: Motorcycle riders get another extension from the JTF (Joint Task Force) COVID-19 Shield for the installation of protective barriers. Instead of July 26, the new deadline is July 31 (Friday).
“In effect, motorcycle riders were given a three-week grace period to comply with this requirement. This will be the most that the government, through our NTF (National Task Force) against Covid-19, could give for our motorcycle riders to comply in order for them to be allowed to back-ride their spouses or live-in partners,” said JTF COVID-19 Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar in a statement.
The full five-day extension, Eleazar stressed, is proof that the task force listens and understands the concerns of motorcycle riders.
For the past two weeks, motorcycle riders have been clamoring for an extension since most still do not know where to get the approved barrier styles while also trying to save up funds to purchase it.
As previously reported, two designs have been approved by the task force. The first is the Angkas-type barrier while the second is the design by Bohol governor Arthur Yap.
According to Eleazar, motorcycle dealers across the country were already provided the information on where to acquire these approved shields should their clients and customers ask.
The DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) has now been tapped to ensure that no substandard barrier will be made available in the market.
