All 20 units of YZF-R1 20th Anniversary Edition sold

MANILA: If you are a motorbike enthusiast, you must have heard about Yahaha’s ultimate sports bike, the YZF-R1. Launched way back in 1998, this machine redefined the landscape of the superbike segment. Why? Well, it was first in its class to feature a vertical transmission, i.e., main shaft above the crankshaft. Back then it produced 150 hp and weighed just 177 kg. This superb power to weight ratio made it an overnight icon, and it gave some serious competition to the then king, the CBR900RR Fireblade (130 hp and 180 kg).

Now, in 2018, Yamaha is paying homage to the legend and is celebrating its 20th anniversary (technically it is a year late). The company is doing so via a special 20th Anniversary edition of the bike, called the YZF-R1 GYTR.

Bringing symmetry to the equation, Yamaha will be making only 20 units of the special edition model. Tagged at a whopping €39,500 (approx. Php 2,380,467), all the units are already reserved. Leaving many the option to enjoy it only in pictures. Also, the Yamaha YZF-R1 GYTR 20th Anniversary is a racetrack-only model.

The YZF-R1 anniversary edition uses the Yamaha Factory Racing Team R1 livery. It’s the same setup used by the unit for winning the Suzuka 8 Hours title. Though, limited is know about the bike, more to be revealed during Yamaha Racing Experience Spring/Summer 2019. Individuals who have reserved the motorcycle will be invited to the said event. In addition, owners of Yamaha R1 can get their hands on the exclusive YZF-R1 GYRT set up to tune their machine at the 2019 event.

Coming back to the limited 20th Anniversary edition, it will come loaded with Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing performance. In the list are included GYTR quick throttle, CCU, AIS Plug Set, Race Wire Harness Set, Racing Spark Plugs, ECU and Communication Cable, and Racing Spark Plugs.

The official Yamaha Racing Team members would assemble the said bike. Also, it’ll receive a full dyno engine run-in and premium Yamalube oil for its first oil change. Each unit will further be shipped with a certificate of authenticity and a limited edition number engraved on the top yoke.

Yamaha is also giving the twenty owners of the YZF-R1 GYTR a few additional specs. Included in the list are -
