VinFast PH cites 3 reasons to check out upcoming Viper e-moto

MANILA: With the forthcoming launch of VinFast’s electric motorcycle arm in the Philippines, the Vietnamese carmaker’s two-wheel arm highlighted three reasons to check out the Viper, one of its three initial offerings for the local market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the VinFast Viper?

The electric motorcycle uses a brushless motor with either one or two removable lithium iron phosphate batteries.
  • How fast can it go?

“The Philippine motorcycle market has no shortage of household names. Legacy gas-powered scooters have long dominated city streets, setting the benchmark for anyone looking to buy a daily commuter,” VinFast E-Motorcycles wrote in a press release.

“Now, VinFast is stepping into the arena with the Viper, an electric motorcycle designed to offer familiar sporty styling while introducing a different ownership experience through battery swapping and flexible purchase options,” it added.

On that note, here are the three reasons cited by the Hanoi-headquartered electric mobility brand:

    Sporty performance, appearance

Powering the VinFast Viper is a 5,200 watt brushless direct current in-wheel motor capable of reaching speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour. As such, the electric motorcycle is suitable for both urban commuting and faster city roads.

Under the seat are two removable lithium iron phosphate batteries that allow the emissions-free two-wheeler to travel up to 150 kilometers under standard conditions. That said, it gives giving riders enough range for several days of typical city commuting before needing to recharge or swap batteries.

The capabilities of the VinFast Viper is mirrored in how it presents itself.

Instead of futuristic styling, it adopts the aggressive proportions and muscular stance more commonly associated with sporty 125 cubic-centimeter (cc) motorcycles that Filipinos have come to love.

Plus, it has many nice-to-have features such as a thin-film-transistor instrument display, a smart key system with remote locating and tracking functions, projector headlamps, and dual rear shock absorbers with external reservoirs — features more commonly associated with higher-end motorcycles.

    Confidence in battery swapping

With an all-electric setup, it is obvious that charging will be the biggest hurdle among adopters.

VinFast addresses that with a battery-swapping ecosystem that gives owners two ways to keep riding. Subscribers can swap depleted batteries at V-Green’s battery-swapping stations, or simply remove the batteries and recharge them at home using a standard household outlet.

Per the company, each battery swap will just set owners back some P35, while those who took advantage of the battery subscription program before July 31 will enjoy the brand’s introductory perks:

Free subscription for one battery for a year
20 free battery swaps every month (during the promotional period)

VinFast’s charging partner, V-Green, also plans to roll out around 30,000 battery-swapping stations across the Philippines, with the initial deployment beginning through VinFast dealerships before expanding nationwide.

    Competitive pricing

The VinFast Viper starts at P73,900 under the company’s battery subscription model — putting it right in the heart of the Philippines’ highly competitive 125 cc scooter segment. This means that the pricing of the electric two-wheeler is on par with, and in some cases below, the starting prices of the country’s leading gasoline-powered 125 cc scooters.

Some riders might prefer to own the battery outright. In those cases, it can be had for P86,600 with one battery or P99,300 with two batteries.

Those opting for the battery subscription model pay a monthly fee of P439 for one battery or P799 for two batteries, while enjoying access to VinFast’s battery-swapping network.

Meanwhile, customers who availed of the early booking program (which ended on July 18) received incentives worth P5,600.

According to VinFast E-Motorcycles, its pricing strategy means Filipino riders are no longer choosing between an affordable gasoline scooter and a significantly more expensive electric alternative. Instead, they’re comparing two products with similar upfront costs, while the Viper adds battery swapping, connected features, and lower running costs to the equation, thanks to its electric powertrain.
