Changan CS15

Similar to its exterior design, the Changan CS15’s interior layout is also not that flashy and colorful like other new-gen Chinese vehicles, but you can tell that it is functional and practical for daily use. Its cabin design still looks and feels above its price point thanks to well-placed soft-touch materials. Upfront, you are greeted by a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display that comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB. Its infotainment is linked to a 4-speaker sound system. Meanwhile, drivers have access to a 7-inch digital instrument display, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, and a sleek gear lever. 

In terms of practicality, you have enough space to accommodate four passengers. However, seating three tall and large passengers at the back might be a bit of an issue due to its limited legroom. But, on the plus side, it comes with a very decent cargo space when the rear seats are folded. This SUV also comes with three USB ports (front: 1 Type-A and 1 Type-C, rear: 1 Type-C), rear air vents, and a 12V power socket. Its leather seats, though not the most well-padded in its segment, still offer decent support for everyone on board.

In terms of dimensions, the Changan CS15 measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,740 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height. It has a 2,520 mm wheelbase and runs on 17-inch gunmetal alloy wheels, which add a hint of sportiness to its overall appearance.

The Changan CS15 looks like a more tamed version of the CS35 Plus. Its design isn’t loud and flashy, but it still looks relatively stylish and premium for its price. It has an assertive-looking demeanor enhanced by Changan’s signature rhombic grille, which displays the brand’s badge as its centerpiece. It has a nice flare courtesy of its automatic halogen headlamps and LED DRLs. 

On the sides, it features a clean two-toned silhouette accentuated by black window trims, side garnishes, and wheel arches. This SUV comes with power-adjustable side mirrors. Meanwhile, it also flaunts a sporty two-toned back end illuminated by sharp-looking LED tail lights, fog lights, as well as a high-mounted brake light for increased visibility. It also comes with cargo lighting for more convenient loading and unloading of cargo at night.

In terms of suspension, the Changan CS15 utilizes a MacPherson independent-type at the front, while a Torsion Beam independent-type at the rear. Its handling isn’t groundbreaking in any way. But, for a small SUV, it can effectively absorb small to medium bumps and other road imperfections. It also has just the right amount of firmness when hitting turns or corners at moderate speeds. However, there is still a floaty or bouncy feeling when you are driving spiritedly. But, to be fair, this car is made to be driven sensibly in the city. 

The Changan CS15 is powered by a 1.5L BlueCore gasoline engine that produces a maximum power output of 105 hp and a maximum torque of 145 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission system. This SUV utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain. 

The CS15 might not be the most exciting and lively to drive out on the open road, but it has more than enough to get you from point A to point B on time. One of its main downsides is that its DCT can get a little bit jerky at times, especially when you are reaching higher speeds. Hence, you must think twice before overtaking slower vehicles with this sub-compact SUV. But, to make up for this, this car delivers great fuel efficiency even when you are frequently passing through bumper-to-bumper traffic in the city. Overall, the CS15 thrives more in the city than on free-flowing highways.

In terms of safety, the Changan CS15 comes with cruise control, rear parking sensors, multiple airbags (driver, passenger, and side), a tire pressure monitoring system, rotary ignition, central locking, a manual parking brake, and a reverse camera among others. 

This SUV comes with ventilated discs for front braking, while solid discs for the rear. Its braking setup is also equipped with an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability program, and hill hold control.

The Changan CS15 is a strong choice for budget-oriented consumers and career-driven young adults who are looking to buy their first car. For its price point, you’ll already get an SUV that comes with plenty of features, which you’d usually find in more expensive vehicles.
