Dongfeng E70 Pro

Inside, the Dongfeng E70 Pro’s cabin looks and feels very premium for its price point. Upfront, the driver is treated to a high-tech cockpit that consists of a 10.25-inch full-LCD instrument cluster, which is connected to a 9-inch LCD touchscreen infotainment display, a steering wheel with multiple controls, and a switch style electric shifter with a crystal design.

In terms of comfort and practicality, its cabin has more than enough room to comfortably accommodate four individuals. However, inserting a third adult passenger at the back might be a bit of a struggle due to a central tunnel. To compensate for this, the E70 Pro offers an impressive 502-L trunk space, which provides enough room for your groceries and light baggage. Aside from these, its leather seats provide all passengers with decent support and ergonomics. For more convenience, this sedan also comes with a 12V power supply and a rear AC vent with 2 USB ports.

For starters, the Dongfeng E70 Pro measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height. This EV sedan comes with a 2,700-mm wheelbase and a 120-mm minimum ground clearance.

The Dongfeng E70 Pro’s design strikes a balance between assertiveness and sophistication. Its sleek facade is illuminated by sharp all-weather ‘Crystal’ headlights. In addition, pointed corners and a black lower grille give it a subtle touch of ruggedness. 

This EV sedan features a classy two-toned silhouette, accentuated by black window trims and side garnishes. It runs on dynamic-looking 17-inch sport aluminum wheels, which give its side profile a futuristic appeal on the road.

While the front end appears more restrained, the rear design adds a stronger sense of flair, courtesy of its sporty diffuser. A red panel (which is mainly for style) is also placed between its angular taillights, further enhancing its modern personality wherever it goes.

In terms of suspension, the Dongfeng E70 Pro utilizes a MacPherson independent-type at the front, while a Torsion Beam semi-independent-type at the rear. At higher speeds, its steering has a tendency to lack feedback. But, to be fair, this EV is not performance-oriented in any way and is designed to be driven sensibly in the city. On the plus side, however, it absorbs bumps and uneven concrete pavements quite well. Overall, the E70 Pro stands out as one of the most comfortable vehicles in its segment.

The Dongfeng E70 Pro runs on a single permanent magnet synchronous motor, which is paired with a 52.99-kWh Ternary Lithium battery pack that offers a 420-km comprehensive range. Its electric powertrain delivers a peak power output of 120 kW and a peak torque of 230 Nm. Using a DC fast charger, its battery can be replenished from 30% to 80% in just 36 minutes.

For its price point, the Dongfeng E70 Pro is surprisingly pretty peppy and smooth. It has more than enough to get you from point A to point B on time. It might not be the fastest in its segment, but it certainly excels when it comes to overall efficiency.

In terms of safety, the Dongfeng E70 Pro is equipped with a reversing radar, visual back-up camera, driver and passenger airbags, ISOFIX child seat fixing device, rear child safety door lock, unfastened seat belt reminder, and a tire pressure monitoring system. This EV comes with front and rear disc brakes. Its brakes are also supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist system, electronic stability control, traction control, and hill hold control.

In my opinion, the Dongfeng E70 Pro is arguably one of the entry-level full-EVs that deliver the highest value for money. It provides private buyers and fleet operators alike with a very accessible and cost-efficient way to own an all-electric vehicle (amidst the increasing fuel prices in the country).
