JAECOO EJ6

For the Philippines-spec version, the Jaecoo EJ6 continues to get the same dual-tone white and black artificial leather upholstery theme with contrast piano black and silver inserts, which can also be seen in the other versions of the SUV sold in other Southeast Asian countries. The clean and sharp-looking layers of the dashboard are complemented by a 10.25-inch full-TFT instrument console and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, making the cabin look new-age.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel of the Jaecoo EJ6 has a funky design with flat upper and lower edges. The centre console here features slim AC vents, with the minimalist and simple-looking panel for the dual-zone automatic climate control placed between the infotainment screen and AC vents.

The front seats have a wide panel between them that houses the crystal-themed drive mode selector placed on it. The other feel-good features offered as standard in the Jaecoo EJ6 are a wireless charger, 64-colour ambient lighting, heated steering wheel and front seats, powered and ventilated driver’s seat and a 12-speaker audio system. 

At first glance, the overall stance and visual appeal of the Jaecoo EJ6 make it look like inspired by the Land Rover Defender. However, Chery Automobiles has managed to make it look differentiated with a host of design elements that add a dose of uniqueness to this squared and upright-looking SUV. 

At the front, the Jaecoo EJ6 has longitudinally-placed, L-shaped i-themed all-LED headlamps with triangular inserts placed on the corners of the fascia. There is a closed black grille between the headlamps, with the EJ6 also having bold ‘Jaecoo’ lettering in the middle. 

The Jaecoo EJ6 has an angular and upright design when looked at from the side, with its angular windows, blacked-out pillars and door panels, trapezoidal flared wheel arches with body cladding and 19-inch machined alloy wheels giving it a fresh look on the outside.  

The Jaecoo J6 has an upright design at the back too, with its vertically-aligned windscreen having a roof spoiler. The rather plain-looking boot lid has i-themed vertical LED tail lamps placed on its sides. This plain-looking boot lid also has a protruding rectangular panel that features Jaecoo lettering in the middle. Like old-school SUVs, the tailgate of the EJ6 opens sideways, while featuring an electric suction function.

Riding on 19-inch large alloy wheels, the Jaecoo EJ6 has a slightly sport-tuned suspension setup comprising independent Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. The driving experience of this compact electric SUV is enhanced by the drive modes on offer – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Custom, Snow, Mud, Sand and Gravel. However, a better-weighted steering setup would have been appreciated. 

Globally, the Jaecoo EJ6 is available in two versions – rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, both of which have landed on the Philippines shores. The rear-wheel drive version gets a single motor setup (184 PS of maximum power and 220 Nm of maximum torque) and a 63.69kWh battery that delivers a 501 km range. The dual-motor setup in the All-Wheel Drive version claims 279 PS of power and 385 Nm of torque and is accompanied by a 69.77kWh battery that returns a 501 km range. 

The Jaecoo EJ6 gets all the modern safety tech usually seen in premium all-electric vehicles, such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill starts assist, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and hill descent control. The L2+ driving assistance features available in the EJ7 include forward collision warning, lane change assist, automated parking, adaptive cruise control, 540-degree recording camera and more. 

The Jaecoo EJ6 is a pure attention-grabber, with its funky design and upright stance on the outside and tech-laden cabin with unique design elements making it a very youthful-looking SUV. The touch of sportiness in its performance and suspension setup further adds more character to the SUV.
