Jaecoo EJ6: 3 reasons to buy

Jaecoo Philippines officially entered the local market earlier this year after several attempts to penetrate the country’s sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment. Its initial offerings consist of the EJ6 and its stablemate, the J7

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the top-of-the-line Jaecoo EJ6?

It is powered by dual electric motors.
  • How much power does it make?

It makes up to 275 horses.
  • The latter is a traditional SUV with an internal combustion engine, while the former is being marketed as a ride for modern drivers with likewise modern features. As such, here is a quick look at three reasons why car buyers should consider checking out the Jaecoo EJ6.

    All-electric power

The range-topping variant of the Jaecoo EJ6 is powered by a dual electric motor setup that generates as much as 275 horsepower and 385 Newton-meters of torque.

On that note, it is able to send the electric SUV from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in just 6.5 seconds.

When it comes to range, the Jaecoo EJ6 (with a 69.7 kilowatt-hour battery) is able to drive up to 421 kilometers before it needs to be recharged.

Overall, the abovementioned performance figures make the Jaecoo EJ6 a formidable contender in the electric SUV space.

Zigwheels Philippines was able to try out the automobile in a makeshift off-road track that put the Jaecoo EJ6 through its paces. The writer drove the SUV through a soft, muddy track, and it performed adequately — proving that it is able to compete against traditional rigs, all while staying sustainable.

    Decent interior appointments

The Jaecoo EJ6’s top-of-the-line model is fitted with various interior features such as ventilated seats with a massage function, a wireless charger, intelligent voice control, and a panoramic sunroof.

In addition, it boasts impressive screens in the form of a 9.2-inch instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The author felt comfortable inside the electric SUV and did not feel cramped despite its compact size. There was also an abundance of soft-touch materials in the top-tier model, which helped make the experience inside the ride more comfortable, granted that we were taken to a rough track that challenged the capabilities of the vehicle.

On that note, the Jaecoo EJ6 will likely be a good choice for car buyers who are looking for a vehicle that drives easily in the city and still offers some level of comfort when taken off the beaten path.

    Good looks

While many SUVs from China, especially those electric in nature, tend to look uber futuristic, the Jaecoo EJ6 appears to blend modern looks and classic silhouettes pretty well.

It starts with a boxy base that brings to mind classic European SUVs. At the fore is a clean fascia decorated only with the “JAECOO” emblem at the center and “L-shaped” headlamps on each side. The bumper, too, is likewise clean-looking and minimalist in design.

The same can be said for its side profile, with slightly flared wheel arches, as well as decent-sized claddings on the wheel wells and side sills.

It rides on a set of 19-inch tires with 245/5 series tires.

As such, it gives the vehicle a ground clearance of 225 millimeters (mm) and a water wading depth of 600 mm. Approach and departure angles are at 32- and 34-degrees, respectively.

To its rear is a plain tailgate that opens sideways with vertical illumination on each side. This rounds up its clean-looking appearance that will surely catch the attention of various enthusiasts in the country.
