JAECOO J5 EV

The Jaecoo J5 EV features a very versatile all-black cabin, characterized by practical features, premium creature comforts, and cutting-edge technology. The front row is a nice place to be in, while the rear can comfortably accommodate three adult passengers. Its scratch-proof seats are plush and supportive even on longer trips, while the trunk offers an impressive 480 liters of cargo capacity (with rear seats folded). And, if that’s not enough, this SUV also comes with a 35-L washable frunk (front trunk), proving that it is indeed an ideal daily family ride in the city. 

Meanwhile, the driver is treated to a high-tech cockpit consisting of a soft-wrapped 8-inch instrument cluster, a multi-control electronic power steering wheel, as well as a wireless charging pad for his or her mobile phone. This SUV is also equipped with a multi-color ambient lighting system and a panoramic glass roof, both of which contribute to its immersive and refined interior feel.

For entertainment and information accessibility, the J5 EV features a vertical 13.2-inch central LCD display that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is important to note, however, that the majority of the car’s interior functions are controlled via the central infotainment display, which might be an issue for other drivers and passengers. On the bright side, its interface is impressively responsive and easy to operate.

For starters, the Jaecoo J5 EV measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height. This EV also has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm and a minimum ground clearance (unladen) of 184 mm.

Appearance-wise, the Jaecoo J5 EV looks smarter and more restrained than its hybrid counterpart, thanks in large part to a smooth rectangular panel that replaces the SHS-H’s vertical-slat chrome grille. Its futuristic fascia is flanked by rectangular LED headlamps with horizontal LED daytime running lights (DRLs). A ‘JAECOO’ lettering is proudly positioned on its central panel. And, underneath, it features active grille shutters for optimal airflow and drag reduction.

Moreover, its SUV silhouette is complemented by 18-inch alloy wheels with dynamic-looking rims. Its elegant side profile is further enhanced by sleek character lines and curves, as well as blacked-out window trims. 

Meanwhile, its pixel-themed LED tail lights extend to the side, creating a unique, futuristic effect. Another ‘JAECOO’ lettering is prominently displayed on the black panel of its power tailgate. This electric SUV is also equipped with LED rear fog lamps and an LED high-mounted stop lamp for increased visibility, especially at night. And, for added storage, it comes with a roof rack on top.

The Jaecoo J5 EV comes with MacPherson Struts at the front and a Multi-Link at the rear. Its setup offers an impressive balance of softness and firmness on the road. It soaks up bumpy, uneven concrete pavements and light off-road trails with ease, yet remains fairly planted and composed through sharp turns and corners. That said, the J5 EV’s chassis delivers both comfort and enjoyment, which is impressive for a family-oriented vehicle.

The Jaecoo J5 EV is powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates 155 kW (208 hp) of maximum power and 288 Nm of maximum torque. Feeding its electric motor is a 58.9-kWh CATL LFP battery that offers an NEDC driving range of up to 461 kilometers and supports DC fast charging of 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes. This electric SUV utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain.

While the J5 EV may not be the fastest or most exciting option in its segment, it can still deliver satisfying, peppy performance out on the open road. Its electric powertrain offers smooth and instantaneous power delivery, allowing you to easily perform quick highway overtakes. Additionally, its electric motor provides plenty of torque, making it capable of tackling steep rural inclines. And, what’s equally impressive is that it remains efficient and refined, even in the city’s mixed driving conditions.

Safety is one of the main highlights of the Jaecoo J5 EV, as it is equipped with a long list of advanced driver assistance systems. This includes a 540-degree HD panoramic view monitor, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control (full-speed range), front vehicle departure alert, forward and rear collision warning, an active speed limiter, an intelligent evasion system, a speed limit warning, as well as emergency lane keeping, among others.

The J5 EV comes with ventilated disc brakes at the front and regular discs at the rear. Its braking setup is also supported by an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, a brake assist system, a brake override system, a traction control system, roll stability control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, and emergency brake assist.
