Land Rover Discovery

On the inside, Land Rover Discovery has been revamped with an all-new dashboard layout and choice of materials, which make the inner occupants feel much more pleasant and comfortable in appeal. One does get three full leather upholstery options to choose from – Nimbus/Espresso, Acorn/Ebony and full black ebony.

The distinctive multi-functional four-spoke steering wheel with the full TFT instrument console make the driver’s cockpit look great, while the simple yet classy slanted center console with the wide touchscreen for the infotainment system make the interior look modern, if not as cool looking as that of the latest Evoque or Range Rover Vogue.

Equipped with seven full-sized seats, the Land Rover Discovery has got all the high-end comfort and convenience features like 12-way powered front seats with memory function, leather upholstery, four-zone climate control, interior mood lighting, electrically adjustable steering column, a powered tailgate and push-button start with keyless entry.

The Land Rover Discovery has adopted the latest of British marquee’s design language, which has made the erstwhile boxy looking SUV turn into a much sleeker and modern looking one. While it still looks unquestionably a Discovery with the original silhouette retained pretty much, it now looks much more modern than ever before.

At the front, the Land Rover Discovery has got a similar-looking trapezoidal front grille with chrome inserts like other Land Rover offerings. However, the sweptback headlamps have different shapes here and have got distinctive daytime running LEDs. The front bumper is free of unnecessary visual drama and has got sleek looking skid plates and vertical air vents on either side.

The side profile of the Land Rover Discovery is now much flashier in appearance, with the broad C-pillar design and rounded rear windows retained in this new model as well. The roofline bulging upwards towards the rear with dual glass panels on the roof lend it a very unique appeal.

At the rear, the Land Rover Discovery has got the large rear windscreen and offset positioning of license plate housing retained in the nee model. However, the tail lamps with LED inserts are all new and give it a unique appeal from the rear.

Land Rovers are often brilliant in their ride and handling balance in both on and off-road conditions, and the Discovery is no exception. The four-wheel-drive with the standard driveline, along with electronic air suspension and terrain response system, makes this large SUV a go-anywhere vehicle with absolute comfort.

In Malaysia, Land Rover has made the Discovery available with only one powertrain option – a 3.0-litre longitudinal six-cylinder diesel engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine in this variant is capable of pumping out a maximum power output of 258 PS and a maximum torque output of 600 Nm.

Armed with all the premium safety hardware like eight airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill descent control, dynamic stability control, adaptive cruise control, electric parking brake, front and rear parking sensors with reverse camera, lane keep assist, blind-spot assist and traffic sign recognition, the Land Rover Discovery is one high-end safe vehicle.

The Land Rover Discovery lacks the top-notch novelty factor and futuristic appeal of the new age Land Rover offerings, but still, it makes up for a high-end plush SUV which is highly capable when it comes to mechanicals and luxurious appeal on board, making it a desirable vehicle which is high on practicality as well.
