Next-generation Land Rover Discovery Spied during Testing

MANILA: Land Rover introduced its Discovery Vision concept at last year’s New York Auto Show which shared design details for the upcoming cars in the new Discovery family. The Land Rover Discovery Sport successfully challenged the BMW X and Mercedes-Benz GLC-class. Apart from being coming under revised range of Land Rover's vehicles, the new Discovery will be larger in dimension and will replace the current version soon after its debut. However, the spied imaged reveal is brief architecture of the upcoming vehicle.

The heavily camouflaged test mule appears familiar to the current model of discovery while the third window near the C-pillar remains as a design highlight. However, there are some significant reprofiling seen at the front, the square-ish headlights have been replaced by sleeker and rectangular designed headlights.

Even the front grille has been replaced with a smaller and round looking grille along with air intakes around the bumper area. It was partially revealed because of the net mesh around the front profile. Overall from outside, the Discovery introduces a more curved out design on both front and rear sides.

Meanwhile, It seems that Discovery's rear didn't receive much transformation as the front. Unlike the concept, the SUV’s pillar-mounted tail lamps remain same along with the split-tailgate design as seen in the present model. The company claims that the new Land Rover Discovery will based on Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) that is also observed in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Aluminum is used for the construction which is meant to make the vehicle lighter than the current model.

Under the hood, the new Discovery SUV might offer both petrol and diesel engines, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Vision Concept also uses JLR’s “invisible body” technology that engages cameras to provide the proper view to the driver. The concept also features lase headlights that are capable to projecting good light.
