Catering to the lower end of the commuter segment of motorcycles, the Skygo Earl 150 has been launched with the intent to appeal the more mature set of customers with its simplistic approach as an overall package. The Skygo Earl 150 is available in a single variant in the Philippines market.
The Skygo Earl 150 clearly looks one generation old, for the bare bones design making it look as if it has been built to a cost. The overall styling feels pretty dated by current generation standards, and the lack of contemporary features makes it feel even more basic in that sense.
The front fascia of the Skygo Earl 150 has been designed in a very basic manner, with a round headlamp taking the center stage, along with clear lens turn indicators mounted on triangular mounts on the sides of this headlamp. The overall headlamp has been given a nice black finish, and just below the headlamp, there is a rectangular black element, which acts as the mount for the number plate.
The side profile of the Skygo Earl 150 has been tried hard to look a bit modern, with a gloss black finish executed for the spoke wheels, exhaust pipe and engine case, however, it does very little help to it. The fuel tank with its slightly rounded design and rounded knee recesses go well with its retro design, and so do the trapezoidal side body cowls placed under the long and flat seat.
Unlike the front which gets a body-coloured fender, the rear profile of the Skygo Earl 150 gets chrome finished rear fender on which the tail lamp is mounted in a popped-up fashion. The clear lens turn indicators do find their place here as well, mounted on the sides of the rear fender. A black tubular grab rail completes the rear profile of the motorcycle. To add a flavor of sportiness, the Skygo Earl 150 gets an open case design for the drive chain.
The instrument console of the Skygo Earl 150 too looks pretty basic and minimalist, with the cylindrical single pod cluster placed in the middle getting basic information on the spot, including speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. The rounded chrome finished rearview mirrors complement its retro image, even more, however, the cheap-looking switchgear again reminds that this motorcycle has been built to a cost.
The Skygo Earl 150 feels very easy to ride and maneuver, as the motorcycle is one of the most lightweight entry-level 150cc motorcycles in the country right now. The slim and light-weighted nature of the motorcycle makes it friendly to ride for new riders as well. The motorcycle gets hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic coil springs at the rear, which offer a decent ride quality and handling for daily urban hustle. The only ‘premium’ hardware in the chassis of the Skygo Earl 150 is a disc brake at the front, while the motorcycle does with a drum brake at the rear.
The Skygo Earl 150 gets a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled 150cc engine, which is coupled to a basic 4-speed gearbox. While the maximum power output of this engine is rated at 13 PS, the peak torque tips at 10 Nm. The engine sounds a bit gruff and unrefined, which makes it feel a notch below its other major Japanese rivals.
To keep costs in check, the entry-level Skygo Earl 150 misses out on all the modern crucial safety features and does not get even the now important ABS.
For the entry-level motorcycle buyer audience, the Skygo Earl 150 doesn’t put anything new to the table. The motorcycle feels very basic in terms of design and under-equipped by modern standards. However, at the price point on which it is available, the Skygo Earl 150 feels a decent package, with an adequately powerful 150cc engine and sturdy suspensions setup doing their duty on the motorcycle.
