2018 Suzuki Dzire vs 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4: Which one to buy?

The sedan segment in the country is hotter than ever. New cars are being launched in parallel with old cars getting facelifts. This has created a tensed atmosphere for the manufacturers. But it is a good thing for us, the customers, as we have more options to browse. Out of the many sedans, there are two Japanese ones that have been acquiring a lot of attention recently. They are the 2018 Suzuki Dzire and the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. So, which one would be the better deal for you? Let’s find out.

1) Looks

Mitsubishi has given the Mirage G4 a small update for the 2018 model. This update includes redesigned tail lights, a tweaked rear bumper, new alloy wheels, new colors, and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. More or less, the Mirage G4 looks the same, which isn’t bad, but when you compare it to the 2018 Suzuki Dzire, you’ll definitely have second thoughts about it.

 

The latest Dzire is clearly the better-looking contestant here. The 2018 model has received a major overhaul. Suzuki has brought in European design elements to make the car that much more ‘dzirable’. And it worked. The new set of headlights, new front grille, striking alloy wheels, and signature tail lights, together they all highlight the key features of the Suzuki Dzire.

2) Interior

When it comes to the interior, the biggest USP of the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is the space. Due to its long wheelbase, it’s got lots of cabin space for all the occupants. Even after with all that space up front, the trunk capacity is also great at 450L. The seats offer a good amount of comfort. There’s a large touchscreen infotainment system that supports AUX, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity, and it also doubles up as a navigation display while using the GPS. However, the use of materials in the cabin aren’t of the best quality.

It’s not the similar case with the Dzire. Here you are sitting in a much more modern interior when compared to that of the Mirage G4. You instantly get that feeling because of the overall use of good quality materials and cabin ambience. We really like the sporty flat-bottom steering wheel. Behind it is the meter cluster that looks as modern as the car itself. The seats are contoured perfectly and have just the right amount of bolstering to provide great comfort. The cabin space is good for all the occupants. The trunk capacity is a bit lower at 378L.

3) Engine and performance

With the Mitsubishi Mirage G4, you get to have only a single engine option - a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, petrol engine which comes with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control System (MIVEC) and produces 78 PS of max power at 6,000 revs and generates 100 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 revs. It comes with two transmission options - a 5-speed manual gearbox and CVT.

Under the hood of the Suzuki Dzire is also a 1.2L engine but it has an extra cylinder. It churns out 82 horses and 113 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift). Suzuki says that its intelligent actuating system controls the clutch and gear-shifting to give a blend of performance and fuel efficiency.

4) Safety features

 

Both the cars here have got more or less the same safety features. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 has got front airbags, front seat belts with pre-tensioner, ISOFIX, reverse camera, ABS, and EBD.

The Dzire, on the other hand, has got same safety features but it lacks on a reverse parking camera but adds brake assist functionality.

Verdict

So which one would be a better buy? Well, the Suzuki Dzire is better looking, has a better interior, offers the same safety features, and has an advantage of Suzuki’s vast network and aftersales support. Also, the starting price of the Dzire is Php 638,000 which is lesser when compared to that of the Mirage G4, which starts at Php 666,000. Basically, you pay less for better features. So, it’s quite understandable that the 2018 Suzuki Dzire is a better deal than the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4.
