KEY TAKEAWAYS
What powers the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid?
The SUV uses a 2.5-liter e-Boxer engine paired with an electric motor. How far can the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid travel?
The Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid has an estimated range of over 1,000 km in one full tank. With it comes a full palette of colors that will cater to the style and motoring needs of the Filipino car buyer.
So, without further ado, here is a quick look at the 11 available hues of the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid. But because there is a lot to cover, we will segment the colors into shades. Here’s a quick look at the various tones one may pick when purchasing the new sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Earthy tones:
- Autumn Green Metallic
- Brilliant Bronze Metallic
- Cashmere Gold Opal
The Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid’s earthy colors are a good pick for those who lean towards the ruggedness the brand has been known for. That said, the latest iteration of the SUV — despite packing an electrified powertrain for the first time here in the Philippines — still retains its off-the-beaten-path-ready character.
Supporting the vehicle is a MacPherson strut setup at the fore and a double wishbone arrangement at the rear. During our short (but sweet) time behind the wheel of the hybrid Subaru Forester, it proved to have good balance when attacking some of the corners inside Alabang’s business district.
There was no opportunity to take the electrified SUV on unpaved thoroughfares. However, the automobile breezed through speed bumps and potholes, which gave us the impression that it could provide a comfortable ride when driven over rough patches of roads.
In addition, it has the carmaker’s famed symmetrical all-wheel drive system, which will prove to be useful when faced with challenging terrains. Also helping is its 220-millimeter ground clearance, which will give would-be owners additional confidence when conquering various obstacles.
When it comes to stopping power, the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid relies on disc brakes all around. Helping with halts and deceleration is an anti-lock braking system with brake-force distribution and a brake assist with brake override.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid is equipped with the Subaru X-MODE, which in tandem with the aforementioned all-wheel drivetrain, provides drivers with increased performance.
According to Subaru, the said mode was “designed to be used when road conditions become particularly treacherous or challenging, such as in slippery or icy weather, on steep hills, in muddy terrain, or even when taking the car off-road.”

Some sportiness can be observed on the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid — outside in.
First, the SUV now wears a handsome fascia with an updated grille. Notably, it has large horizontal slats that feed air into the engine bay to help cool the powerplant. The front bumper too looks good and sports subtle honeycomb patterns.
The side profile of the vehicle gets angular claddings on the wheel arches. These get functional air vents, which can be seen in some models like the Subaru WRX. Similar protective plastic appliques can be found on the side sills and lower portion of the SUV’s doors that echo the small honeycomb design seen at the front.
Other notable appointments seen from this angle include its set of 19-inch wheels with 235/50 series tires; direct-type, load-bearing roof rails; as well as the “e-BOXER” and “Symmetrical AWD” badges.
The hind side of the model boasts a discreet roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated brake lamp, combination taillights connected by a rear garnish, and a bumper (also with some tiny honeycomb patterns) that neatly hides the exhaust.
A power tailgate is also fitted as standard.
Inside, the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid provides occupants with a good-looking interior. Noticeable are its leather upholstery with suede inserts, dashboard finish with similar subtle honeycomb patterns, and some hard plastics here and there.
Facing the driver is an instrument cluster that combines analog gauges and digital meters that display relevant data in crisp detail. Next to it is an 11.6-inch high-definition touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audio is sent to a premium Harman Kardon sound system with good audio quality.
One can also get a multi-functional steering wheel with paddle shifters.
Creature comfort amenities include:
- Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
- Wireless charger
- Ergonomic seats with power features (lumbar support for driver)
Metallic hues
- Ice Silver Metallic
- Magnetite Grey Metallic
- River Rock Pearl

One thing to point out is that the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid is the first vehicle in the carmaker’s Philippine lineup to get the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS).
The Zigwheels Philippines editorial team was able to try it out — with the guidance of a Subaru instructor, of course — and see for ourselves how helpful it can be in times of emergencies.
Watch the video below for our first look at the Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid (EDSS test at 1:30 minute mark).
Subaru e-Boxer powertrain
The Subaru Forester e-Boxer Hybrid sports a sustainable powertrain system that allows hopeful buyers to enjoy some level of eco-friendliness while reaping the benefits of owning an electrified vehicle here in the Philippines.
Power comes from a 2.5-liter horizontally-opposed boxer engine paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Shifting of gears is facilitated by a hybrid lineartronic continuously variable transmission with a six-speed manual mode.
Below are its power figures:
