2015 SEMA Show: Chevrolet to Launch New ZZ6 Small Block V8 Crate Engine

MANILA: Chevrolet has something special in store for its fans, the company ready with its new ZZ6 small-block V8 engine. At the 2016 SEMA Show that is scheduled for November, Chevy will unveil the latest addition to the legacy that started long back in 1955 with the 265 CID. The new ZZ6 350-cubic-inch crate engine is a one of its kind power mill, you can say it is a twisted version of the iconic 350 small-block design.

Now, let's get into the tech stuff, ZZ6 is turned in a way so that it gives out high-rpm performance. In order to get things work in a specific manner, the mill is now armed with fast-burn aluminium cylinder heads, and valve train spring inspired by the LS family of power plants. In addition, the large intakes runners will help improve the airflow, plus the beehive styled valve springs allows for less reciprocating mass. The engine is further engineered with a forged steel crankshaft with 0.474/0.510-inch lift and 208/221-degree duration, and high-silicon aluminium piston inside the cast iron block.

The end result of this configuration is 405 hp of maximum power and 549 Nm of peak torque, making it the most powerful 350-engine ever produced. “The new ZZ6 is the ultimate ZZ 350-based crate engine from Chevrolet Performance,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “After more than six decades, our powertrain engineers continue to refine and update the classic Small Block architecture, adapting new technologies to advance the legacy of the industry’s most adaptable V-8 engine and giving customers new choices from the company that pioneered the concept of high-performance crate engines.”

Chevrolet says it will offer a base as well as a tune-key versions of the crate engine. The base kit will offer: a single-plane aluminium intake, distributor, water pump, damper and flex plate, but requires the carburetor and other accessories. Conversely, the Tune Key option will offer a carburetor, air cleaner, starter, distributor, alternator and additional accessories such as the air conditioning compressor and front-end accessory drive system.

Availability of the same will be announced by Chevrolet at the SEMA press conference that is scheduled to take place on 3rd November.
