2017 Volvo S90 launched in the Philippines

MANILA: The flagship sedan of the Swedish automaker, S90 has been finally launched in the Philippines. Volvo has tagged this updated sedan as “Magnum Opus” considering the sheer luxury and features of the car. It seems, Volvo is looking to quickly expand its lineup in the country as in July the V60 Cross Country was launched and now the S90 has made its entry. The new Volvo S90 is based on the ‘Scalable Product Architecture’ (SPA) platform, which is also used in the XC90 launched late last year.  

As always, Volvo has put additional focus on safety and S90 comes with a safety cage that is equipped with different steel grades that combine rigidity and energy absorption. Even an electrical system is placed in the car which allows easy installation of any new technology in safety, infotainment and vehicle dynamics. Considering the design of the 2017 Volvo S90, it continues to feature Thor’s Hammer shaped daytime running lights, and a wide front grille with company’s insignia. On the back, the C-shaped LED taillights, dual exhaust pipes, and redesigned bumper gives a sophisticated touch, while the 20-inch multispoke alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin P Zero tires accentuates the overall design in a perfect manner.

The high-quality leather, soft-touch materials, wood panels, glass knobs and piano black trim pieces are evident in the cabin and the large infotainment screen at the center takes care of the infotainment needs of the occupants. Under the hood configuration of the S90 include both the diesel and petrol options. Among the choices, the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four diesel engine  delivers 192 PS maximum power and 400 Nm peak torque. Transmission duty is handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The S90 T5 is priced at Php 4,195,000 while the S90 D4 is tagged at Php 3,995,000.
