2020 Audi S8 is here, packs 563 hp

MANILA: Following the successful inception of the Audi A8 back in 2017, the German automaker has now unleashed the sedan’s bigger sibling, the S8. The Filipinos, however, might not be allured by the executive sedan as it doesn’t come with a diesel-fed motor anymore. Instead, the all-new 2020 Audi S8 gets its juices from a gasoline-hungry twin-turbo V8 engine.

Being a sibling of the A8, the Audi S8 used the smaller sedan as its foundation. The changes on the elder Audi include bigger carbon-ceramic brakes, quad exhaust tips at the rear, bigger five-spoke alloys, and revamped air-intakes at the front. As a whole, the 2020 Audi S8 looks like an elegant-performance-executive sedan.

On the inside, the changes are rather minimal and the interior has been simply carried over from the A8. However, there is carbon fibre upper inlay that not only provides the cabin with a 3D looks but also enhances the sport quotient of the same. Other exciting features inside the include diamond stitching, S embroidery, and matte aluminium trim. Moreover, there are ample digital screens that play the roles of the centre console and the instrument cluster.

Coming on to the most interesting aspect of the 2020 Audi S8, the German plush sedan comes housing a 4.0-litre twin-turbo gasoline V8 motor. This mill is capable enough of producing 563 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 800 Nm. The transmission onboard is an eight-speed ZF automatic that works in conjunction with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Also, there is a mild-hybrid variant that incorporates a 48 V setup.

Other mechanicals revisions on the 2020 Audi comprise of rear-wheel steering, revamped predictive air suspension, and torque vectoring sports differential. Speaking of availability, while the Americans will be able to get their hands on the long-wheelbase S8L model, Europeans, on the hand, will have to do with the standard 2020 Audi S8.
