2020 Ssangyong Rexton launched in PH, starts at Php 1,730,000

MANILA: While Ssangyong has had offerings like Tivoli, Tivoli XLV, and Rodius competing in the Philippine automobile market with other compact SUVs and vans. The South Korea automobile manufacturer then brought in the Musso in order to grab a piece of the pickup truck segment. With the SUV market ballooning rapidly, it was time for Ssangyong to introduce its own much larger seven-seater offering in the country.

With that said, Ssangyong has launched its flagship SUV Rexton in the Philippines after the SUVs global launch two years ago. At the front, a wide grille is flanked by large upswept headlamps. The side profile of the Ssangyong Rexton is bolstered by roof-rails and 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV gets wrap-around taillamps with C-shape graphics and a sporty bumper.

Hop inside the 2020 Ssangyong Rexton and you will be greeted by an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes equipped with AM/FM radio, AUX, Bluetooth, USB, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The upholstery has been done in quilted leather. The flagship SUV also features heated and ventilated front seats.

Other convenience features on the 2020 Ssangyong Rexton include a leather steering wheel, six-speaker sound system, electronic parking brake, LED interior lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, seven-inch multi-info display, power tailgate, and 50:50 split third-row seats.

The 2020 Ssangyong Rexton gets its power from a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel inline-four mill. It is the same engine that powers the Musso. Power figures read 181 PS of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 420 Nm at 1,600 – 2,600 rpm. Unfortunately, the Rexton might not be liked by the purists as the SUV gets a seven-speed automatic transmission only. However, both 4x4 and 4x2 drive are available.

While the 4x2 variant gets dual front SRS airbags only, the 4x4 model comes with a total of six SRS airbags. Standard safety equipment on both the models include keyless entry, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, hill-descent control, alarm with immobilizer, and reverse camera with front & rear parking sensors. The Rexton 2.2L 4x4 A/T and Rexton 2.2L 4x2 A/T get a price tag of Php 2,230,000 and Php 1,730,000, respectively.
