A Word of Relief from Volkswagen Philippines

MANILA: The whole world is aware of the latest VW scandal which included the implantation of a corrupt software. A high-end machine that would hide the actual emission rating when under test. Exposure of this fact leads to panic around the world with people concerned about their VW possession. The same goes for Filipinos, they long waited to hear a word from the brand they trusted and after days of wait we finally hear from them.

Volkswagen Philippines yesterday released a press statement saying -

“Volkswagen Philippines has just received official information from Volkswagen AG that all vehicles distributed and sold by Volkswagen Philippines are not affected by the particular software used in diesel engines. We at Volkswagen Philippines sincerely apologize to all our customers for the undue stress and inconvenience this issue may have caused. All vehicles distributed and sold by Volkswagen Philippines comply with Philippine emissions regulations and standards. Volkswagen Philippines highly appreciates the continued trust and confidence provided by the Filipino consumers to the Volkswagen brand.”

So, those with a VW vehicle can set back and relax, as your car's health is perfect and it is not injected with any cheater pill. But one fact that is also true is passing Philippines emission standards for any brand is not like an uphill task as compared to getting through the US emission tests. Another depressing fact is that bribery has become more of a custom in the accredited testing centers and so passing the test becomes all the lot more easy.

Though our intention is not to blame the VW group, but what we mean here is that our country's emission standards are not apt and need an immediate revision. So, we would request our government to think over the issue and learn from its western counterparts how to protect and conserve the environment.
