All-new Peugeot 2008 gets slick design and an all-electric powertrain
MANILA: One of the more popular and sought after crossovers in Europe, the Peugeot 2008 has entered into its second generation. With radical changes on the outside, the Peugeot 2008 can now be called a proper SUV than a crossover. Speaking of the changes, along with some extensive hammering on the exterior of the car, the French automaker has also equipped the all-new 2008 with an all-electric powertrain.
On the outside, the revamped design philosophy is reminiscent of the bigger siblings like 3008 and 5008. The new 2008 gets an enlarged grille along with a headlamp setup similar to what we saw on the updated 208. Yes, the fang-shaped LED DRLs have made their way to the Peugeot 2008 as well. And boy do they look menacing. While there are prominent changes at the rear of the car, the bumper still remains more or less the same with fog lamps on either end. The 5008 inspired taillights are joined by a black strip running from one end to the other.
Moving inside the all-new Peugeot 2008, we find the iCockpit. There is a steering wheel smaller than the conventional ones along with a high-set instrument cluster. The infotainment system comprises of a 10-inch touchscreen display. Moreover, the world inside the Peugeot 2008 is full of comfort and convenience thanks to the soft-touch materials, wireless phone charging, USB sockets, and many more top-of-the-line amenities. Courtesy of the new CMP platform and a wheelbase longer by 60 mm, the space inside the new 2008 is more than enough.
The all-new Peugeot 2008 houses under its hood three different versions of a 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder gasoline-fed engine which make 99 bhp, 128 bhp, and 153 bhp. There is also a 1.5 BlueHDi diesel-powered mill that produces 99 bhp of maximum power. The most interesting powertrain, however, is the all-electric one.
The Peugeot e-2008 gets a 134 bhp electric motor coupled with a 50 kWh battery pack. The WLPT tests say that the range is 193 miles (310-km) and a 30-minute charge using the 100 kW fast charger can fill the battery to 80%.
The newest iteration of the French SUV also gets high-end safety equipment like adaptive cruise and lane-departure avoidance, automatic emergency braking, road sign reading, auto main beam, and self-parking.
