BOC officially seizes 13 vehicles under Discayas

MANILA: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has officially seized a total of 13 vehicles from the embattled Dizcaya family. As mentioned by the agency, this is part of its efforts to combat smuggling and corruption. 

Done via the issuance of a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD), the seized vehicles are likewise part of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s highly publicized investigation into anomalous flood control projects.

It also follows the initial raid performed by the BOC on the Discaya-owned St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor and Development Corporation in Pasig City, which managed to account for a varied mix of 30 high-end vehicles. 

As determined by several sections of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), Port of Manila District Collector Alexander Gerard Alviar issued the WSD for 13 of the 30 vehicles. The warrant was issued after irregularities were discovered in the importation and documentation of the 13 vehicles.

As further determined by BOC’s Management Information Systems and Technology Group (MISTG), seven out of 13 cars do not have import entries or lack (or have faulty) Certificates of Payment. The said vehicles include the following: 

• Toyota Tundra
• Toyota Sequoia
• Rolls-Royce Cullinan
• Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 AMG 
• Mercedes-Benz G 500
• 2021 Lincoln Navigator
• Bentley Bentayga

Meanwhile, the agency also said that the other six have import entries but lack or have fraudulent Certificates of Payment. These  are the:

• 2024 Lincoln Navigator 
• GMC Yukon Denali
• 2021 Cadillac Escalade
• Maserati Levante Modena
• GMC Yukon XL Denali
• Cadillac Escalade ESV

As further shared by BOC, the issuance of the WSD and the seizures of the 13 Dizcaya vehicles do not mark the end of its responsibilities. In fact, it signals the beginning of “more decisive steps toward forfeiture proceedings.”

“Our job at the BOC never stops with just seizures. We want the public to know that we are serious about the responsibilities entrusted to us, not only in our routine operations but also in pursuing actions that will help resolve longstanding anomalies which continue to burden our people,” said BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.
