MMPC partners with UPLB to find solutions vs. poverty, malnutrition in Laguna

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has shown its support to the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) thrust in addressing poverty.

In a statement, MMPC claimed that the collaboration reaffirms its commitment to education and community development, investing not only in mobility solutions, but also in programs that strengthen the future of the nation.

The result of the recently-forged partnership between the Japanese automaker’s local arm and the state-run college is the handing over of the Mitsubishi Strada Athlete pick-up truck that will be utilized for the DUNONG (Department of Education–Laguna–University of the Philippines Los Baños Nurturing Opportunities for the Next Generation Towards Ending Learning Poverty in the Philippines) program.

To note, the aforementioned nameplate was replaced by the Triton in 2024 after the marque's local distributor adopted the model’s global name for the sixth-generation offering.

During the ceremony, MMPC Chairman Noriaki Hirakata expressed firm belief that the partnership will further spur long-term progress.

“Today’s turnover is a symbol of partnership — one that brings together the strengths of industry and academia to support the growth of knowledge, innovation, and national progress,” he noted.

For his part, MMPC President and Chief Executive Officer Ritsu Imaeda shared that supporting such initiatives is aligned with the company’s mission to nation-building.

“At Mitsubishi Motors, our mission has always been about more than producing quality vehicles. We aim to be a trusted partner in nation-building, contributing to the progress of the Philippines not only through mobility, but also through programs that uplift lives,” Imaeda explained.

Meanwhile, UPLB Chancellor Jose Camacho, Jr. thanked MMPC for the support in the program’s mission of nurturing future generations.

“The Strada Athlete donated today will be a crucial partner in the implementation of DUNONG. With it, we can reach schools, parents, and communities more effectively, ensuring that children grow not just in learning but also in health,” said Camacho.

Lastly, UPLB Vice Chancellor Janette Malata-Silva mentioned that MMPC’s contribution will have a broader impact on the program.

“MMPC’s commitment to social responsibility, especially in community and education, is an inspiration. We are grateful for this partnership that helps create a brighter future for the next generation,” Malata-Silva said.
