BYD eMAX 9 DM-i: what to expect
During Zigwheels Philippines’ trip to China, we saw the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i at the Zhengzhou All-Terrain Circuit. Sure, this particular version may not be representative of the one coming for the local market, but it provides us with a glimpse of what to expect.
On the outside, the model bears an elegant exterior design, which is highlighted by a large front grille and full-width LED daytime running lamps. It also has generously tall windows, power sliding doors, and a subdued-looking rear end equipped with a power tailgate.
Inside, the model boasts a roomy seven-seater configuration with leather upholstery and second-row captain seats. Both front seats also feature power-adjustability, while the cockpit is equipped with sizable digital displays, silver metallic decorative trim pieces, and additional soft-touch surfaces.
Sounds good so far, but for now, BYD has yet to provide a full list of amenities for the Philippine-spec. However, we reckon that the Philippine-spec version will have the right stuff to face its similarly sized rivals.
For its powertrain, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i’s publicly available certification from DOE indicates that it will be available with a 20.39-kilowatt-hour (kWh) or 36.62 kWh battery. From the same database, the upcoming MPV’s internal combustion engine is said to be capable of producing up to 148 horsepower (hp), while its electric motor can put out up to 268 hp.
As to be expected from a fifth-generation DM-i powertrain, the eMAX 9 will likely have regenerative braking, a direct-current charging capability, a cruising range of over 1,000 kilometers, an electric-only drive mode, and the Intelligent Driving Assistance System that’s already present on other locally available BYD nameplates such as the Tang DM-i.
Again, this is just a teaser, so one can expect the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i’s full specifications list, as well as its pricing details, to be disclosed once it officially launches. So, stay tuned.
