BYD plans to install 20,000 Flash Charging Stations in China. In a statement, the Chinese automaker said that its latest set of breakthroughs are targeted to address the two main pain points of electric vehicle owners namely slow charging speeds and poor low-temperature performance.
Here’s what you need to know about BYD’s two new technologies.
2nd-gen Blade Battery
A product of six years’ worth of research and development, the second-generation Blade Battery boosts energy density by five percent (versus the first generation) while ramping up charging speed.

Also, the second-generation Blade Battery fitted in the Denza Z9GT allowed the vehicle to cover a range of 1,036 kilometers.
To reduce internal heat generation while increasing heat dissipation, BYD equipped the energy bank with a “lithium-ion high-speed channel” and a “full-spectrum intelligent thermal management system.”
Flash Charger
Aside from the battery, BYD also launched the Flash Charger.
The said infrastructure combines a 1,500-kilowatt single-connector output with a high-capacity energy storage system that bypasses grid capacity limits without overstraining the local power network.
It also features the world’s first T-shaped pulley charger to address the traditional public charging points’ pain points such as being unhygienic, inflexible, and having complex authentication steps.
Moreover, its "Zero-Gravity" design helps users to lift the connector effortlessly to either side of the vehicle while keeping cables clean and off the ground.
BYD looks at putting up 20,000 Flash Charging stations in China and roll out worldwide at scale. Once available, the facilities will be ready to cater to the public.
BYD claimed that it secured a new world record for charging speed — 10- to 70-percent state of charge in just five minutes and hit 97 percent by the ninth minute. Further, the charging duration in extreme low temperatures (-30 degrees Celsius) from 20 to 97 percent increased by three minutes compared to room temperature.
“BYD has always believed in using technology to change the world. Today, with the launch of the 2nd Generation Blade Battery and FLASH Charging technology, we are once again reshaping our future with technology and innovation, facilitating a leap-forward in global transition to electric, intelligent mobility and building a greener earth for generations to come,” the firm concluded.
