BYD to launch Shark nameplate in PH?

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines could be poised to launch the Shark hybrid pickup truck in 2025. 

The Philippine subsidiary of the Chinese electric vehicle company posted in its official social media page asking what Filipino car buyers do right after they buy a pickup truck. 

It further encouraged its followers to guess what vehicle the brand is launching soon. 

This post sparked the idea that the Ayala-led company is about to bring the BYD Shark to the Philippine market anytime soon. 

BYD Shark quick specs 

Currently, the BYD Shark hybrid truck is offered in various markets in the Latin American and Australian region. It is also currently sold in Cambodia, which is why the author believes that it could be made available in the Philippines soon. 

Hybrid powertrain, chassis 

Overseas, the BYD Shark comes with an all-wheel drivetrain fitted with two permanent magnet synchronous motors paired with a 1.5-liter engine and a 29.58-kilowatt-hour Blade battery.

Halts and deceleration is handled by ventilated disc brakes, front and back. It also uses double wishbone suspensions at the fore and at the rear. 

The BYD Shark rides on 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 265/65 radial tires. 

Tech, safety 

Like most BYD cars offered here in the Philippines, the Shark also gets a rotating touchscreen infotainment screen with a size of 15.6 inches. It has both Apple Carplay and Android Auto, which should make smartphone integration more seamless. 

A 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster is responsible for feeding the driver relevant information.

• Automatic dual-zone air conditioning 
• Rear cabin power outlets

Safety-wise, the BYD Shark gets a handful of features like airbags and seatbelts as well as a 360-degree-view camera and sensors. It also gets adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, rear collision warning, and traffic sign recognition, among others.
