Commercial EV development
According to Isuzu Motors Limited, The EARTH lab. will serve as the core hub for the Isuzu Group’s commercial EV development, where testing and validation functions for a wide range of systems and technologies are consolidated under one roof.
Establishment of The EARTH lab. was announced in November 2023 as part of the company’s initiative to strengthen its electric automobile development.
Photo from Isuzu Motors LimitedIsuzu Motors Limited noted that the main feature of the facility is its capability to evaluate and verify essential EV systems and technologies from the early stages of development, which includes batteries and electric powertrain components such as individual motors and eAxles, as well as energy and thermal management systems.
The marque added that by enabling highly accurate verification of quality and performance from the early stages of development, it will take the lead in planning, design, evaluation, and decision-making, thereby driving the development of competitive EVs.
It is also notable that the facility has been designed to reduce environmental impacts — with the solar panels installed on its rooftop and side walls, and waste heat recovery systems used for some air conditioning equipment.
