Caltex PH extends support to frontliners

MANILA: Caltex (Chevron Philippines Inc. or CPI) collaborates with Chevron Holdings Inc. (CHI) to donate a total amount of P1 million in the form of fuel and cash to combat Covid-19 in the country. The purpose of these donations is to provide sufficient equipment to health workers and frontliners as well as safely transport them amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

To help resolve the lack of personal protective equipment (PPEs) and medical supplies, the two Chevron companies donated P500,000.00 to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Medical Foundation. PGH is one of the designated hospitals in Metro Manila that exclusively handle Covid-19 cases.

Caltex also partnered with JAC Liner in terms of a cash donation of P250,000.00 for fuel support. The contribution was given to four shuttle buses catering to health workers and frontliners for them to be able to reach their workplaces safely and efficiently. JAC Liner is one of the biggest bus companies in the Philippines. The cash donation was made to fuel shuttles with routes starting from the Parañaque Integrated Terminal to Alabang then to Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard until the first week of April.

The Caltex Makati Credit Cooperative also provided financial support of P25,000.00 to Kaya Natin! Foundation to to assist volunteers in transporting health workers from different pickup and drop off areas in Metro Manila due to the ECQ. Kaya Natin! Foundation is one of the non-government and non-profit organizations in the country aiming to deliver ethical leadership and good governance. Caltex employees spearhead the current donation drive.

Aside from this, Caltex teamed up with Grab Philippines through a P300 daily gas voucher for every Grab volunteer driver-partner. This is to demonstrate support for the platform’s GrabBayanihan program, wherein designated cars provide free, 24-hour transport services for hospital employees. Each GrabBayanihan vehicle can ferry two health workers at the same time to comply with the social distancing protocols of the government.

All Caltex stations in Luzon are open daily since fuel companies are exempted from the ECQ. Aside from increased hygiene guidelines in their stations, there is also the implementation of additional measures to combat Covid-19. These include regular disinfection of sites with high human contact, compliance with the one-meter social distancing guidelines, and frequent temperature checks of employees and customers. The company also encourages customers to use the hand sanitizers and disinfectants on cashier counters and transact through contactless payment methods.

According to CPI country chairman Louie Zhang, Caltex joins the Philippines and the frontliners and health workers in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
