Chevrolet Blazer gets new life as a C-segment crossover
MANILA: Chevrolet Blazer gets a new life in form of a C-segment crossover, unlike the earlier days when it was manufactured as a pick-up based full frame SUV. Back then it competed against the likes of the Dodge Ramcharger and the Ford Bronco. The Blazer is now ready in an all-new avatar as a smaller crossover. It is the fourth crossover in the company’s crossover range. The earlier three are the Traverse, Trax and the Equinox.
Talking about the design, the all-new Blazer gets an aggressive front with sleek headlamps and big gaudy split grille. The fascia looks inspired from the sports coupe, the Chevy Camaro. While the sides are gorgeously creased, the reverse kink near the third window takes the design language to an altogether new level. At the back, the Blazer gets the wrap-around tail lights, small windshield, big sculpted tailgate with an integrated spoiler. Over the top, there are black roof rails that complete the crossover look in an ideal manner.
Inside the cabin, the centre of an upright dash is reserved for the floating infotainment screen which is common on the modern-day Chevrolets. The driver gets the luxury of a multi-function steering wheel and a digital information display that is flanked by circular analogue dials. Lower down the centre console there are round air-conditioning vents. The other two AC vents are placed on either corner of the long-flowing dashboard. The chrome treatment inside the cabin is quite prominent, can be seen on the AC vents, door handles, steering wheel, centre console and over the dash.
The Blazer is available in three trims, the base variant, Premier and the RS. While the Blazer Premier is on the sophisticated side with chrome inserts and body-coloured trimming, the RS version gets sporty interiors with gloss black accents and low profile tyres.
Under the hood, the Blazer gets a standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that puts out a max power of 194 PS and a peak torque of 255 Nm. Additionally, it gets an optional more powerful 3.6-litre V6 engine that churns out 308 PS of power and 365 Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to an automatic transmission system with no manual transmission on offer. The all-new Blazer also gets an AWD (All-wheel drive) system.
The new-gen Blazer squares off against the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V.
